  • Apple software head Craig Federighi explains iPad's trackpad support

What... what's that sound? Oh it's Google turning on their xerox machines.
Why Google? they haven't done anything to make tablets operate like something other than big Android phones in years.

And attempts to integrate Android and Chrome pretty much ran into a ditch from all I know, so Chrome OS development hasn't been doing much of anything (has it?).

I would be quite surprised to see Android tabOS. But I expect the Microsoft Surface team is already looking long and hard at this

  • Apple announces thinner MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, Touch ID, USB-C ports starting at $179...

Question : If all the USB ports can be a power connector can I speed up the charging by plugging in multiple chargers?

Well... I still prefer magsafe more
Might be an excellent way to make the Note explosions look small scale.

Or Apple might have (and likely has) engineered the max amount of power the battery can receive at a given moment.

Reassign them to the AirPods division.  It needs help, apparently.

$200 billion in the bank. 115,000 employees.

And are late delivering wireless f-ing earphones.

In any other industry, that's a fail. But with Apple, it's "We're taking the time to make sure we're doing it right," and everyone nods in agreement.

    Nice job.
    Agreed!

Not only that, but by removing the audio jack from the iPhone, this delay ends up hurting their most important product.

They should have released AirPods a year before they removed the audio jack. If people loved the AirPods, then there would have been a strong case to remove the jack.

    Something is wrong in Cupertino.
It's becoming unavoidably obvious, that despite evidence of lots of remaining chops in lots of ways, and still great things about products they're releasing, there's getting to be quite a bit wrong in Cupertino.

Just take something simple about harmonizing product lines while "futurizing" their ports:

If they were going to do the no-audio jack thing (as at least three Android phones already have to no news reaction), and making the near portless MacBook and MBP all USB C (likely to be followed by iMacs and Minis if continued) in a move to get rid of legacy ports for an omni-port that will rule them all, plus give them access to all new products coming out and ultimately massively decrease dongle hell for some years to come (until USB x or whatever arrives), it seems obvious to me the iPhone 7 (and all future iPads) should also have gone USB-C, just as most Android phones have - making many things interchangeable - across devices, device classes, makers, etc.

That way, the included USB-C (as opposed to Lightning) headphones would have been ready to go on all new Apple gear and lots of rants avoided.

Ultimately sensible and Apple's still out front.

But nupe.  Still a proprietary Apple I/O after all the musical porting.
  • Apple launches new 12" MacBooks with Intel Skylake CPUs, rose gold color & longer battery life

My next will likely be a Pro, so I hope they've got something to wow me form factor/design/overall-wise (Ill likely be buying the second iteration in 2017), but IMO they've lost their way on their offerings below Pro performance.

The Air sticks around with a year old, eclipsed processor line-up, an aging sub-1080p amount of pixel real estate, and they throw in RAM that likely costs them bupkus - and everything else is either commodity priced or otherwise fully amortized and keep the price the same?  And that's the '16 Air line? Friends who take my buying advice, but who aren't on Pro budget, have been waiting 6 months on my say so for a totable machine that's serious enough for video editing with a screen they can see it at Retina res while they work.

And another year's passed and there isn't one below $2K (I'm assuming the new Pros WILL be far more totable than the current models). So I'm embarrassed to report back to them.

And then there's this precious thing (think pink!) that has the great screen (if 12" is enough for you), but with a lower class processor that's not up to what you can get done on the Air, AND pricey for the portabiiity, so if you want to do real graphics work, you're gonna need to come up with pro shekels - which the people I've been advising to wait don't have.

So in this class (sub MBP), worst Apple refresh cycle ever.  Sez me.  And feeling like new watch band styles mean more to them than users in the MB/MBA class.
