  • SEC presses charges against GT Advanced & CEO for fraud in iPhone sapphire supply

The GT Advanced spanking that Tim and Jony received negatively influenced the future of Apple in many ways. Mainly, the dream of Steve Jobs for Apple to be trailblazing was ditched.

Sapphire glass screens were just the first big step to using new, innovative materials. But because the deal went bad, out the window went the using all that intellectual property that Apple gobbled up. Remember all those little companies; like consistently 10-15 each quarter that Apple would buy out? Remember Apple working alongside companies like Liquidmetal and Glassimetal? Those days are long over. It's a shame, maybe another firm could have successfully made the boules of sapphire?

So today Tim and Jony are very conservative and adverse to taking risks or experimenting with new technology. Thusly, we have iPhones that are still made of Gorilla glass and aluminum and look and preform pretty much as the the last model you just traded in. You visually can't tell the difference between an iMac made in 2010 or one made in 2020. A Magic Mouse is preforming the same magic as 2009. Etc. etc. etc.

I remember the conference call after the GT debacle and Apple lost that $200 and what ever million; Apple reported making so much God damn money that quarter, the GT $200 million loss---wasn't even mentioned. Not one analyst brought it up. CFO Peter Oppenheimer certainly didn't say a word, he didn't need to.

  • NYPD begins rolling out 36,000 iPhone 7, 7 Plus handsets to Manhattan cops

iPhones are not made for people who work outside for a living. They are far too fragile and temperamental.

The NYPD is going to be pissed less than two years from now when all these iPhone 7s are throttled "for the their benefit".

Ya' know, 'cause the batteries go bad on iPhones for people who actually use them often. And the are people sitting in offices in California know what is good for police officers in New York City. And somehow those distant people have control over those phones whether is the perceived age of the battery or one of the many of the required updates.

Unfortunately you never really own an iPhone.

  • Elon Musk says Apple's 30% commission rate is 'definitely not ok'

Who cares what a rich hypocrite thinks. He overcharges for his products. Just look at all his price increases and record profits. How is this any different. Like I said just a rich hypocrite.
Are you describing Elon Musk or Apple??? Confused...

I hope Musk teams with Berkshire Hathaway and they buy out Apple.

Makes a lot of sense - the over paid empty skirt has no value to add so she spews BS to try and look valuable.  What I have noticed at our local Apple Store is that it is far less crowded and very little excitement is observed.  Several years ago you could barely get in the door and the passion of things Apple was palpable.

If Apple retail is moving online than why are they building out so many stores?

Oh dear. Your personal anecdote is nullified by mine.

I don't find it less crowded, but business is conducted much more efficiently; I get in and make my purchase faster. My store in Reno has been in operation since March 2006, and I go there about 4 times a year; a couple of major purchases, and usually a quick stop for an accessory or cable. It's always fast if you know what you want, and I have never seen any of the tables for consultations or diagnosis empty.

There would be less excitement of course than when the store opened, but then again, I'm part of the customer base for the store for the last decade. Younger customers likely have a "more exciting" experience.
Let me ask you a couple questions about your quarterly visits to Jony Ive's House (your local Apple Store) You already own one of everything they sell, correct? Your visits there are not an eye opening experience? Are you challenged ( oh that's a neat, intriguing, compelling accessory I was unaware of) at all?

My point is that for an increasing amount of people, store visits are a ho-hum experience. A lot of traffic with fewer and fewer actual purchases. Much like my last quarterly visit which was to view a very specific website (high def images of King Tut's Tomb) on a 5K monitor to see if there was noticeable difference from my 7 year old iMac at home. I surfed the website (unimpressed, no discernible difference) and walked out.

I think many people are having the same experience.

Hopefully Jony Ives will be moved permanently to the historic catalogue and Christmas tree side job division (a lateral move with no reduction in salary of course).

And this Sorrentino new hire will bring a breath of fresh air heading the Existing Products division.

    (fingers crossed)
What makes you think he'd have anything to do with industrial design?
It's a hope he will take over industrial design!

I am not impressed with the last 5 years of product output (or lack of output) of the efforts of a company with over 100,000 employees. A company that has not shown the innovation it has promised us. A company who's products are slipping from Best In Class.

A new snake oil salesman would be very good for Apple.
You do know that not all of Apple's employees are industrial designers, right?
    I sure do.

A long time ago, perhaps too long; Apple was an open company that would keenly listen to ideas from low level employees.

I'm sure those bright kids who work in Apple Stores have all background, hands on knowledge, and potential new ideas that this company needs.

Instead of this crazy idea that all Apple innovation needs to come from our resident mastermind locked up in an ultra secure, clandestine location deep in the heart of our spaceship. I'm certain there are 999,999 others already on the payroll that can provide bonafide solid ideas and imput.
  • Assortment of Steve Jobs's personal property for sale by celebrity auction house

So....this auction benefits who? Jane Fonda???

So Hanoi Jane is seeking to make money on the abandoned items left behind of a former romance?

Boy that says a lot about a person...and so does the photos of her and her North Vietnamese friends.

Jane Fonda, a lifetime Hollywood millionaire, doesn't even give a thought to giving the proceeds of this auction to some sensible/relevant charity? These are, after all, old t-shirts--not your income stream so that you can continue living in the lap of luxury.
