  • Coalition for App Fairness unites developers to fight Apple's App Store fees and policies

We the people, who understand Apples reasoning for AppStore policies and fees, we should show these companies what “non-profit” could mean.. by stopping buying their apps.

  • Tesla wants Apple's help to beat Autopilot death lawsuit

I don't think you thought your comment through... unless you want to defend how automated systems like airbags, antilock braking, traction control, blind spot warnings, lane guidance, cruise control, and adaptive cruise control have lead to less safe driving and more accidents because, as you put it, those make us actively asleep. I, for one, don't miss  having to quickly depress and release the brakes in quick succession to stop fast without locking up the brake, and I can't even imagine what it would be like to have an airbag button that I have to push the moment I'm in an accident.

Of course, you'll say that you didn't mean those things and/or that they don't count (somehow), but the absolutely do. They are autonomous systems — denoting or performed by a device capable of operating without direct human control — that have prevented a great deal of damage and minimized the loss of life, even if it means that the younger generations will never understand how and why a brake can lock up and your vehicle to skid without functional control as a result.

You're naming driving assistive features, not driving substitution. Of course we're not going to sleep, but play games instead, texting, making facetime calls, etc. ..Autopilot was always so unneed to intervene ,) It's soooooooo boring to supervise all the time, but having no joy of *driving* ,)

  • Apple Silicon will force industry to reconsider use of Intel chips, says ex-Apple exec

I have no idea what linuxplatform is smoking, but when I go for a coffee almost anywhere here in Prague, I can usually see even one or two PC laptops along all the iPads and MacBooks. I can see a guy playing some game on his whatever branded Android phone in public transport, all around the others holding their iPhones. Or when I get the express city train and heading thru wagons to the dining car.. I can see some new PC laptops too, but all the types and generations of MacBooks prevailing. Hmmm, this MacBook Pro guy is running Cinema 4D on Windows.. is that native boot or?.... Oh, app switcher and there goes Safari with familiar ambient :)
Here I'm talking about relatively poor country in comparison to the west !
What makes PC sales (and usage) so high, are the employees of big corporations. But they are also the people at home - and that's it.

Linuxplatform guy is repeatedly highlighting the expensiveness of the Mac. I would say otherwise! For me, the Mac is less expensive, than almost any PC, due to it's top value preservation. Let me example.. I'm forced to use companys windows PC at work. My wife in another company too. Both companies are buying tons of new laptops all the time.. Lenovo, Dell, whatever. They break alot and maintaining them is not cost efficient for long. Here are the sales! One year old PC notebook (unless some gaming laptops) sells for near nothing. It goes to the landfill with primitive failures.
I bought my MacBook Air early 2014 second hand almost 6 years ago for some 800 USD. I can sell it today for 400 USD easily, but why should I? I'm astounded that my original battery still let me do basic stuff and browsing on wifi for 7+ hours after these years, the display lid doesn't creak and hold still.. and my Mac supports actual macOS Catalina.

I should avoid talking in percents. Mac market is huge.. and with Apple Silicon comming, I believe it will grow on steroids! It's time for an upgrade and I'm going to be an early adopter of AS based Mac notebook. My next expensive, value retaining, Earth friendly computer.

Driving a car involves concentration, considerations and reactions. If we rely on an autonomous system, requiring only considerations, but skipping reactions, that's weakening our concentration. It actively makes us asleep by repeatingly telling our brain no reaction is needed. Also, we are loosing the feel of how car exactly reacts to steering a wheel and thus our reaction once in a while can be inaccurate.

We shouldn't use autopilot at all, if it's not 100% reliable.

  • Father of modern VR says that Apple's headset is 'so good'

I won't even try out this so good future product. I'm sure it will be amazing. I just have an exact idea, where to -live life for my own- ends and where -having my life being lived- begins. iPhone is a borderline technology already, just look at the people around you. Still I wish you all to have a great time and superb entertainment with it.

I would welcome old style Mac OS X System Preferences. iOS style with Mac related prefs is still confusing for me, have to use search for panes everytime.

  • Heavily upgraded M3 Ultra Mac Studio is great for AI projects

With traditional PC setup, 10 times more power draw means approx. 10 times more heat to dissipate. One would imagine some huge active cooling box and alot of cables.. but there sits one little great Mac Studio on the desk. Very impressive!!

  • Apple employees urge management to act on Gaza conflict

Interesting. No worries about the fighting in Ukraine?
Or any other conflicts around the world?

Perhaps this is because of a different pace. At the end of the year, death toll in Ukraine was around 9.700 people after these years, while in Gaza it's over 30.000 since October. Civilians x soldiers ratio also differs. Hard to judge...
