  • TikTok assures US officials it has strong data security, denies recent report

Let me tell you how these things work in chinese companies.

For those uninitiated, Huawei basically copied cisco code and made a competing router and became the largest router company in the world.

I had a friend working at Huawei a few years ago. They were facing some critical bug in the router code. My friend and rest of the team figured out the issue, and suggested a particular fix. The way it worked is, a only-chinese 'architect' team would have to approve that fix. Two days later they respond back with a different way to fix that issue, and ask the team to implement that. When these folks checked, they found that the bug had been fixed this way at cisco. It seemed like this 'architect' team had some kind of back-channel into the cisco development team (possibly through another chinese developer there), and when required they would just pull up the code and thus stayed in sync.

Its a chinese company, they will send all the private data to chinese govt. Of that we can be sure.

  • Apple accused of stealing dual-camera technology used in latest iPhones

There’s enough meat to this story to make it seem credible.  The company is definitely not a patent troll.

If everything turns out to be true, it’s not a good look, and it’s more than just a disagreement on patent validity...

It’s full blown IP theft, which I despise.
I think Corephotonics has no case if the Apple patents are valid.
The iPhone 7 came out years ago, so why didn't they sue?  Because they knew that they had no case.
Many of the cell phone cameras have similar technologies but once key features are patented and the patent are valid, that's it.
You can't sue a company for using their own valid patented technologies instead of yours.

Please read the full article, full timeline is given. They did sue apple for patent infringement within an year (after attempting talks for a few months). Apple was engaged with them for 4yrs before they brought the tech out into an iphone. Their patents are older, and they have had the tech since 2012.

Prima-facie this looks like a strong case, and possibly even legitimate.

  • Apple's India chief reportedly departs amid sluggish sales

There's no way Apple can ever sell many iPhones in India. Apple doesn't sell $100 smartphones. A used iPhone 4s could be too expensive for most Indian consumers. That's just the way it is. I'm sure Apple must realize this and is merely going through the motions so as not to insult India. India should have allowed Apple to sell refurbished iPhones to consumers but pride seems to be more important than common sense. Both Apple and Indian consumers lose out. Android smartphones have about 98% market share in India. Just unbelievable. That fact alone practically obliterates any chance of Apple gaining global smartphone market share percentage. The Android smartphone manufacturers are laughing hard at Apple in India.
India does not discriminate for or against apple. It does not allow any used or refurbished goods to be sold in the country (from any company), since such a regulation can and will be misused by the 'global' corporations to dump electronic junk in the country.

The restriction exists for the sake of the environment, and we don't see any reason why it should be changed.

  • India moves to restrict imports of Apple's MacBook Pro

There is some necessary context missing here. Indian govt has nothing against Apple or america, this has more to do with China.

The problem India has is that there is a huge trade deficit with china (i.e. India imports significantly more from china than exports to china in the ratio of almost 1:5). And this is increasing further (though at a slower rate than before due to govt efforts). This trade deficit causes havoc in the country triggering inflation, depreciating currency etc. The main reason for this deficit used to be - mobiles, toys and other electronics. The first two have been taken care of - India is now second largest manufcturer of mobiles, and toy manufacturing is also significantly increased.

But the other electronics, with laptops being a major component, is something the govt is looking to balance out a little now.

  • Compared: Apple AirTag vs Tile Pro and Chipolo One Spot

I think Apple is using its market power here in a little bit of anti-competitive behaviour. Airtags will get access to the full apple ecosystem for detecting tags while tile can only access the part of the ecosystem that uses tile app. So, unless apple makes available the BLE capability of the full ecosystem to Tile, they are forever handicapped and can't hope to compete with Apple. This one is going to be tough to defend in the court.

It really boils down to two, Apple and Samsung. The others are totally irrelevant, including Google’s Pixel which isn't even a blip on the sales rankings. So it wouldn’t surprise me to see some bureaucrat decide that government subsidies are needed to keep ‘competition’ alive, or to force iPhone clones into being.
    Well, really it doesn't.

BBK, Honor, Xiaomi and Huawei are far from irrevelant.
If Apple and Samsung have 99.5% of the profits, where does these far from irrelevant others have? .5% basically?? So how can they survive if they only have .5% of the profits?? I must be out of this world thinking 🤔

Apple and Samsung don't have 99.5% profits. In 2019 they had 84% of the smartphone market profits with about 60% of revenue. The rest of the players (like BBK, Xiaomi etc.) account for 40% revenue with 16% profits. Apple's profit share was 66% and falling YoY.

(2020 numbers show apple falling further, but I am not taking the 2020 numbers seriously due to the tremendous disruption caused by the pandemic)

  • Hidden AirTags crucial in Singapore recycling failure investigation

The whole recycling process is the biggest scam around. People keep passing it on from contractors to sub-contractors with legal indemnities, until it reaches someone small enough, in some country where the laws are not stringent. That's all there is to it. Those guys just dump it anywhich place they can like garbage dumps, rivers, seas etc. etc. There isn't a biggest sham around.

  • How to check which Mac apps are 32-bit and won't work in macOS Catalina

Over the last few Mac OS updates I have gotten a message about my Canon printer and the fact that it has a 32 bit driver. No link, no name about what you should download, just that the driver will soon cease to work.

Go to Canon website, find the update drivers, then put in the printer model. It’s a printer/scanner, about 4 years old.  The model is a MG 7520, so select Mac drivers and look for a newer one. Then look at the one already installed. Other than a few digit difference after the decimal point, it’s the same number. Download and install anyway. Next point upgrade for the iMac get the same notification that the driver soon won’t work.

Do do an online search to see if it’s KNOWN that this printer will not be supported on the new OS. The 7520 series is supposed to be Mojave compatible, per Canons website.
I have a canon printer-scanner too which came with the 32-bit "Canon IJ Scan Utility". You need to download the newer version "Canon IJ Scan Utility2" which is 64-bit if that is the software you have.

  • Poor customer service is tarnishing Apple's image in India

Apple received low marks for customer satisfaction, issue resolution and empathy of store staff to customers and their problems, with 60 percent of respondents calling employees of authorized shops "arrogant," the report said.

"The entire process seemed very transactional and non-personal, which isn't expected from a brand like Apple in the rest of the world," said Tapuriah.

Arrogant:   That has been my impression in at least half of my visits to my local Apple Store.   The "I am right and you are wrong" mentality is very strong -- even when asked why their "facts" differ from those of another Apple employee from the same store!   During one drawn out issue of a defective phone being replaced I received 4 different answer from each of 4 different employees -- and each of them insisted that they and only they were correct.   That's arrogance.

In fact, in my last visit to that store I thanked the employee for not talking down to me.  That's how common I have found it to be.  (Again, roughly half the time)

(But that is only in the one store that I frequent -- and I have never, ever experienced any arrogance during any online interaction (support or sales).   Not even a shred of arrogance -- quite the opposite actually).

Transactional & Impersonal:   I seldom find this.   But when I do, it is only after being handed off to somebody charged with taking my money after I have decided to buy a product or service.   But, other than that, it is almost always the exact opposite:  Very warm and personal.
I met an Apple hater from India and he was one of the most arrogant stupid mother**ckers I had ever met. He claimed the Secure Enclave did not secure user data and laughed every time I explained how computer chips worked. I think he thought I was talking about potato chips because he found my knowledge on the subject so funny yet he knew ZERO about chips. Literally nothing about them.

So I can't blame those Apple employees if that's the attitude in India. Plus look up any scammer video on YouTube these people are complete sh**. I'm starting not to like Indians. Has nothing to do with Apple and all to do with attitude.

They also have this weird thing when you beat them in an argument they start making random noises. It's like when a kid says "LALALALA!"
So, you like saw two indians and decided not to like them .... nice attitude. Irony died somewhere in there...
