EU's latest demand on Apple about geolocking is unforgivably naive
The ignorance in this article, and in some of the offended comments by non EU citizens is staggering. The EU is a single market, it has a single currency for most of its member countries since 25 years, and services must be delivered without borders. This applies to all companies that do business in the EU. I can buy a refurbished Mac in Germany and enjoy the warranty in France. It is inacceptable that Apple continues to prevent people who move between two EU countries to close down their existing account and open a new one, at the risk of losing their on-going subscriptions. It is unlawful that although I managed to change my payment methods from a Belgian credit card to a French one after moving, that I can’t access the French App Store, where I need to find some banking apps not available on other stores. Etc. Apple has had decades to comply with the EU Directives, so stop all these crocodile tears and get to work! -

Apple's ultra-thin OLED iPad Pro fails to spark sales surge
It’s wonderful, but as it’s now more expensive than a base M3 MacBook Pro, once you factor in the keyboard case, it’s not as great value, based on its os limits. How high does Apple think it can jack up prices before the sales crash? I use my wife’s M1 iPad Pro, bought new in 2021, but instead of getting the newest iPad 13” I got a second hand M1 Max 14” MBP. And I must say Mac OS feels much more pleasant to use. -

There's hope that older Macs will be able to run macOS Ventura
JP234 said:Mystifies me why anyone would want to do this. Running newer MacOS systems on Macs Apple classifies as "vintage" or "obsolete." They ALWAYS, and I mean always, run poorly, sometimes terribly. I worked for an Apple VAR as a service writer (what Apple calls a genius, but no way I'd make that claim), and we got many people who wanted us to restore their old OS, which Apple does not make easy for consumers. (We had the means, and we charged $129 for it.)
If you can't afford a new Mac, or iOS device, just keep the last authorized OS. If there's a feature you just must have, then bite the bullet and get a new model that can use it. Just a cautionary tale from someone who has seen what these hacks can do. -
AirPods Max won't support Apple Music lossless over Lightning, HomePod also left out

iPadOS 15 confirms Apple's M1-equipped iPad Pro is a V8 engine powering a Ford Pinto
hackintoisier said:AppleZulu said:So Apple releases expensive hardware with obvious capacity for future expansion of operating system capabilities, and the complaint is that the OS doesn’t max out the hardware out of the gate. Got it.Of course, if iPadOS already took full advantage of the capabilities of the M1 model, there would be much louder complaints about how last year’s pre-M1 hardware has been rendered obsolete so quickly by OS features the pre-M1 devices can’t handle.
As to your second point, the A12 chips in the prior iPads were used in the developer transition kit to run an ARM build of macOS (with its much deeper multi-tasking and windowing support), and the chip ran macOS just fine. Clearly they have enough horsepower. So I highly doubt that if Apple added the changes requested here in this article that the 2018 and 2020 iPad Pros would be rendered obsolete.
Until Apple makes fundamental changes to iPadOS, the M1 chip is a waste of hardware honestly. The A12z in the 2020 version is just fine. The only real difference with M1 is the addition of thunderbolt so you can connect to peripherals like 10gbps lan cards, high speed storage, etc. But other than that, there’s nothing about the iPadOS experience that is significantly different on M1 vs the A12x/A12z. Multi monitor support is still limited to 4x3 and does not scale to the 16x9 or 16x10 aspect ratio of monitors. iPadOS has some fundamental limitations, even though the hardware itself has been proven to not be limited in that regard, as M1 and A12x/A12z can run the more complicated window manager of macOS. And we have to tell the truth. -
Apple execs may be newly considering buying AI firm Perplexity
AppleInsider said:Perhaps in an acquihire to boost search, or to improve Siri, Apple executives have reportedly recently discussed buying or partnering with AI startup Perplexity.
Perplexity may be on Apple's acquisition listThe two executives linked to discussions are said to be the company's head of mergers Adrian Perica, and Eddy Cue. According to unnamed sources within Apple, internal discussions are in a very early stage, and there has not yet been an offer made.
Also a possibility is a team-up with Perplexity, rather than an outright buy. Any partnership would put Perplexity in Safari, and perhaps integrated into the long-delayed improved Siri project, that is now not expected to ship until 2026.I’ve been using Perplexity for a few months, mainly as a very efficient search engine, so it has mostly replaced Google in my case.
It’s faster, reliable, and doesn’t overwhelm you with ads.
It doesn’t replace higher end models like Claude or ChatGPT, but it can provide the basis for a query into those models.
I would be very happy if Apple integrated Perplexity in its OS tools.

Apple admits the Q2 surge in imports won't be enough to stop price hikes
jfabula1 said:Apple needs to satisfy their investors…
That is why the second hand market is there for the masses if brand new iPhone is unaffordable for them or maybe subsidized by provider which are already existing. We should be frugal. -
