I had my X replaced in-store back in February because of this exact issue. 
It started off as an intermittent issue in December which could be resolved by a restart, but steadily got worse. Until, by the beginning of February the touch screen was completely dead.

As I remember, “retina” means that the resolution is fine enough so that a healthy human eye cannot see the pixels - no matter how close you move your face to the screen. 
Meaning that as long as the pixel density is at least as high as the iPhone 4, you won’t be able to tell whether it’s 720, 1080, 4K or whatever. 
Obviously, what you are sacrificing is the contrast ratio of an OLED screen. 

The lack of native radio streaming is the only thing that’s stopping me recommending a Home Pod to my parents.
They’re always impressed by the sound quality when they hear mine, and they like the idea of being able to put their old hifi, tapes and CDs into storage. But without the ability to say “play BBC Radio 2” and hear a live stream without the need for third party apps, clunky shortcuts or the need for their one and only iPhone to be nearby, is just a dealbreaker I’m afraid.
