  • Apple updates Logic Pro X with performance upgrades for 2019 Mac Pro

A DeEsser 2 plugin improves options for reducing sibilance (hissing)
Hey Roger. A DeEsser is indeed to reduce sibilance, but “hissing” is not really an accurate description of what most audio engineers are trying to reduce when they use a DeEsser. It is more like the sharp, percussive-like sound that sometimes exists at the start of an “s” sound by a vocalist. It can be piercing and distracting so they try to dial in the very specific EQ range causing the offense and reduce it. A DeEsser is essentially a shortcut to accomplish a specific EQ and compression maneuver. Peace.

  • Apple enterprise sales channels gearing up, preparing businesses for iMac Pro orders

One thing I don't get: Why the upgraded speakers in a "Pro" computer? I guess for graphics persons that play Spotify in the background as they work? I can't imagine a professional video editor using computer speakers in their professional work, and audio engineers...well, they wouldn't be professional if they mixed on computer speakers! (I know, some would use them as secondary or more likely tertiary alt speakers to check a mix, but not as their main near fields...and as that type of tool, you still would not need them to be "upgraded.")

  • Spotify slapped with $1.6B copyright lawsuit over songs by The Doors, Tom Petty, others

    1.6 billion... lmfao
So they are saying every single Spotify user has ONLY been playing their small handful of artists 24/7/365 for years and years...
Ok then... have fun with that and proving damages.

When the greedy music execs and artists are done cannibalizing their fans and tech companies... how much are they going to make when everyone just starts pirating their music again? Or listening to local music, or one of the hundred thousand other ways to enjoy free music that they get zero profit from...

Gotta laugh at all the big headlines "Artist X is making a statement and pulling their music from streaming service X"... then a few months and missing hundreds of thousand bucks later - the library suddenly shows up again.

I believe this has much more to do with songwriters, who in millions of cases are NOT the artist. They are often making no money at all from Spotify for their copyrighted works...not sure why they should be ok with a service stealing their property to make money off of it. That's actually far worse than users stealing it for their private use.

  • First look: Benchmarks put Apple's entry-level $4999 iMac Pro to the test

Would love to see Logic Pro X test running as many 3rd party orchestral VIs as possible at 48kHz and maybe 96kHz...does AI ever do any tests like that, or is it all video/graphics type tests? Peace.
