  • HQ Trivia app closes down, ends with drunken presenters asking for jobs

Back in the first dot bomb round of the late nineties, there was a site called “fuckedcompany” that was the insiders place to dish dirt on the impending death of their startup. I think it might be time to get that band back together...

  • Compared: Nike Apple Watch versus the standard Apple Watch Series 5

I just received mine w white fabric band and velcro. Looks great. I upgraded from series 3 Nike. But now I found I like a different, standard watch face. So you could always just buy a white fabric band on Amazon which are great.

But if you're an athlete being wooed by the always-on face, because pundits have claimed it is a great idea for people, think twice. Because it does NOT keep the app on. It blurs out the app and puts an ugly display of time over it, making it totally useless, but still burning more battery.

A big fail on Apple here, that hopefully they'll improve with an update. I want to see the Intervals app times by glancing down, as I can't always turn my wrist up or tap.

This is useless as is. And I imagine it burns battery by having the active app blurred but still showing color-ish in the background. Useless, but burns battery.

And, if you want to just force your watch to show your cool watch face if you can't use the app to glance, you're out of luck there, too. It forces you back to the ugly white display of the time if you have any, ANY active app (not just third party apps).

Super frustrating. I won't even go into the idiotic volume control switch out (to supposedly "match" with the phone). The control gets hidden by third party apps. And you can't interact with the progress circle as it is. Pointless, bad UI which is becoming more and more common with Apple. Design/function/usability inconsistencies across devices, poor usability. Priorities there have really shifted. To profits. Great.

  • Apple closes all retail stores outside of China until March 27

H1N1 in 2009 was much worse. Look it up if you've forgotten. It was 11 years ago, so most people don't bother to remember past events to understand the present. Apple didn't close any stores then, and they shouldn't have to now. About 1000 people had died in the US before Obama declared an emergency, and no one in the media or in the Republican Party criticized him for it. Trump shuts down flights from China in January, and then puts in motion a lot of other measures, and they can't stop complaining and politicizing. This. Will. Blow. Over. It's not that big of a deal. It's smart to take precautions, but this isn't any worse than a bad flu outbreak. And that brings me to another point. The flu infects and kills more people every year than corona virus has or likely will. Why don't we call flu a pandemic? Why don't we shut down flights and close Apple stores when the flu season starts? Some will disagree with me on this, but flame away all you want. I'm right. It's annoying how people forget what happened before. I didn't stop going to shopping malls, flying, or anything else after 9/11, and I will not allow this to make me live my life any different. I always practice good hygiene. When I'm at the gym I use hand sanitizer a lot. I just practice common sense.
You need to pull your head out of the jar of dumb you’ve been soaking in. This is just starting. People don’t need to panic but the dismissive attitude is actually deadly.
