Tim Cook confirms that Apple has been working on generative AI for years
My primary problem with Siri is it doesn't remember context. So if I ask about where someone lives or the address of a company and it gives me the answer, I can't request, "Take me there" because it doesn't know what "there" means. I'm afraid I've gotten spoiled by GPTchat engines with which I can make backward references. -

The next Apple CEO: Who could succeed Tim Cook?
Customers (remember them?) will be disappointed if the new CEO doesn't grok the spirit of the company, no matter how good an administrator they happen to be. I think that's why Tim Cook suggests his replacement should come from inside, so the new person has been steeped in Apple culture. Gil Amelio failed terribly. Angela Ahrendts was smart enough to understand but had trouble executing. And Jony Ive is not CEO material for a large organization. Let's leave him alone to design thin things. -

Apple's first-ever retail store at Tyson's Corner is moving to a new location
I was first in line at Apple Woodfield and Apple Oakbrook, both Chicago-area stores. I scored the tube T-shirts...and a job. I worked Apple Michigan Avenue (original) and Apple Old Orchard for 14 1/4 years. Since retirement, I've been first in line at the remodeled versions of both those stores. It must be in my blood. -
Apple illegally denied benefits to union workers, says US labor board
I thought the purpose of a union contract was to lock in benefits with an employer so the employer couldn't make arbitrary changes. If you're a union employee, the contract says what you get. Isn't it disingenuous for a union employee whose benefits are defined and secured to say, "Wait a second. I also want what non-employees are getting"? Shouldn't those be negotiated? [Note: I've worked in the vicinity of union employees but have never been a union employee. My lesson from that experience was never to do any part of the union employee's job or suffer a grievance – even if they're not doing it.] -
