Apple in talks to license Google Gemini AI for iPhones
The most interesting point would be who contacted who at first?
The more advanced AI is, the less relevant the web search service will be. Therefore, I would not be surprised if Google contacted Apple at first.
For short term, it would be a win win situation for Google and Apple if Google pays a specific annual fee to Apple as Google already does for their Chrome on iOS.
However, AI is an uncertain technology without clear pictures how AI will shape the future.
But following questions to be answered:
1. How would this corporation affect the privacy? (AI with "open" source and privacy are usually a contradiction).
2. What additional benefits (not money or monetized benefits) could Apple get in those corporations?
I think that Apple wants to run their own in-house SLLMs on device (Small LLMs).
This news is all about running cloud-based AI.
Gemini would make more sense than OpenAI or Claude because Apple has already used Google´s cloud service.
But honestly.... People kept saying Apple has some weapons as they purchased more AI enterprises than other tech enterprises.
Apple lags behind on AI based on LLMs.
Car project cancellation, $490 million loss, and this indictation that Apple has managed their AI resource poorly..
Apple is really behind on AI and Apple should feel uncomfrtable with the current situation. -
Decade-old Apple Car project may be completely dead

Abandoned $10 billion Apple Car project referred to as 'Titanic disaster' by employees
Absolutely.. A disaster.
Having worked in the German automotive sector, I know quite many people scouted by Apple.
They were chassis engineers, quality engineers etc. dealing with auto manufacturing components.
At that time, Apple was serious to make a car and convinced those classic engineers from my employer (My supervisor was contacted by Apple at that time as well).
Now, Apple gives up and all those hardware engineers, who made a huge decision to relocate their families and themselves from Germany to SV, are now what?
They may get higher salaries, higher compensations etc., but they came to realize highly motivated projects with a lot of challenges.
Apple occupies TTL over 160.000 employees and the number of those engineers is invisibly limited. Here, everybody is asking "so what?".
But it is so sad to see my former colleagues working there without..... realizing their dreams.

And this MM1 with 30b parameters does not seem to be ready? -
GM's CarPlay replacement doesn't work well, and has a long road ahead of it
GM is not the only one. Mercedes Benz officially confirmed that CarPlay will not be supported for next models.
The reason of Mercedes is that Apple wants to strive for "All or Nothign" strategy.
Mercedes Benz would have no issue to have CarPlay as long as basic features can be played by Apple, but Mercedes Benz is not willing to give up the entire control to Apple.
I fear that more and more OEMs would follow GM´s and MB´s decision not to support Apple CarPlay if Apple continues sticking to their "All or Nothing" strategy.
But Having driven EQS, I have to say that MB is way way behind in the UI/UX area.
MB tries hard to present their cars as a modern technology, but it feels old somehow.
Nothing can top the simplified UI/UX made by Apple. -

New Apple AI training method retains privacy, and could make a future Siri more flexible
According to Bloomberg, Apple has been in negotiations with Google (Gemini) and OpenAI (ChatGPT).
If this should be true, then do I understand correctly that Apple would prefer Gemini or ChatGPT over their own AI-trained model?
Does Apple plan to integrate Gemini/ChatGPT with Siri?
If these negotiations should be true, it would indicate that Apple is really far behind on AI.
Of course, it depends on who contacted who at first like Google did with their Chrome on iOS. -

But Apple may face a critical momentum in the automotive area to lose their relevance.
Apple is a premium brand. I think Apple needs MB or BMW as a partner. -
'Strong action' is coming if the EU doesn't like Apple's App Store concessions
When can EU realize that their law and regulations will NOT make the environment more competitive among Apple and others?
The best competition is always offering a competitive infrastructure in Europe where talented people NEVER leave Europe, but build their own enterprises and make them larger and bigger.
Europe has lost their decades to catch up with American tech enterprises and face more and more newcomers, which threat European enterprises.
You have AI. What does Europe do instead of building their own AI competitors? Regulation.
It is not sustainable to defend the European market with more regulations.
Language barrier, living in a rude and stubborn environment, too high taxes...
Europe is losing and losing talented kids to the US.
Learn from Apple, Microsoft, OpenAi, Meta, Netflix instead of punishing them.
Study how Europe can build such enterprises and make them to US competitors.
