  • No, Steam wasn't hacked -- but your security habits still matter

... is anyone else uncomfortable with putting all password eggs in one basket...?
Add to that the balance of information that Apple seems increasingly default setting to collect in iCloud servers ...?
That’s the trade off of security vs. convenience. If you want more security, it’ll be less convenient. If you want more convenience, it’ll be less secure.

You could use an actual notebook (an actual paper notebook) for keeping track of all of their unique passwords. Use an actual paper notebook and keep it secure in an actual safe. And I don’t say that jokingly. I know some people who do exactly that. They have been doing it well-before internet password managers even existed and have just continued do it to the present day.

(The safe isn’t specifically for the notebook. But if you already own a safe, you might as well use it.)

For all practical-purposes, that notebook in a safe is the most-secure password manager you can have. It’s inconvenient as hell to use, lol, but it’s super secure.

  • Apple tops global brand rankings again -- by a giant margin

It seems different brands of the same company are valued separately. So if you add Alphabet’s brands (Google and YouTube) together, that also adds up over a trillion USD.

And if you add up Microsoft’s brands (Microsoft, Linkedin, Xbox) that would get to nearly a trillion USD as well.

I don’t see Microsoft’s Activision Blizzard on the list. Maybe each individual gaming franchise of Activation Blizzard is valued separately (and none of them individually made in the top 100). Otherwise it seems like Activision Blizzard should have made the list as well. Or maybe it got included as “Xbox”? Not sure.

Microsoft also kinda/sorta has an ownership-ish stake in OpenAI (ChatGPT — on the list). So I suppose that would get added in as well in some way.

I’m a little surprised the Tesla brand is ranked so high considering… all that has happened recently, lol. Maybe it was actually ranked much higher before… everything. Or maybe this 2025 list is based on information mostly from 2024 (which would make sense).

Also surprised that Samsung is ranked so low. But maybe Samsung’s individual brands (as well as individual companies) got seperated-out for the purposes of this report. Would the “Galaxy” brand be considered separate from the Samsung brand itself? And would Samsung Electronics be different from all the other Samsung companies?

    Interesting list.

  • Apple rumored to release iOS 26 at WWDC, instead of iOS 19

So it’s going to be “iOS 26” and not “iOS 25”? Going to make it less-confusing by naming it one calendar year ahead of the actual year (car model year style)? If so, that’s fine. I’ll adjust. But doing it this way is slightly more-confusing than it needs to be. Naming it based on the actual year would have been… but whatever. Just need to remember that the actual year of release is: OS Number - 1.

  • After everything, Epic Games submits new 'Fortnite' to US App Store review

I hope NOBODY will buy this app ;)
Was that a joke as the app will be free (Fortnite is a freemium game)? Or was that a genuine hope that nobody will “buy” (/download for free) the app?

I hadn't picked up on that. Naming it iOS 26 in the year 2025 does seem like a misstep if Apple goes that route.
The problem Apple faces, the same problem as car manufacturers, is that the name iOS 25 is great for three months, then suddenly it sounds old and outdated for nine months until iOS 26 arrives.

It is better to be ahead for a couple of months than behind for nine. Also, iOS 26 won't be out until about a week before October, which is the beginning of the FY26. It works.
I understand the reasoning. It’s just a little funny that Apple is supposedly doing this to make it less confusing, but at the same time want to add a layer of confusion for marketing reason.

  • Trump may have added 25% iPhone tariff specifically to punish Tim Cook

Tim Apple, this is the life you choose. Did you really think your “donation” would be a one time thing? Oh, you sweet summer child. It was never enough then, it is never enough now, and it will never be enough in the future.

If Trump tells you to “Jump”, you need to reply (with tears in your eyes) “How high, sir?”.

Ask Jensen Huang for some advice. Jensen knows how the strongman-authoritarian game is played. He knows how to play the game in China. And he knows how to play the game in 2025’s America. You won’t see Jensen making such rookie mistakes. Jensen showed up with Trump on the trip and heaped tons of praise on Trump. He knows what’s up.

Just say “Siri, call Jensen”. And after Siri replies with “I found some web results…”, go into your Contacts app and call him that way.
