  • Apple expands iPhone XS and XR trade-in program countries around the world

The only way Apple will ever lower the price of it's iPhones is if people stop buying them. But Apple knows there's millions of suckers that need the latest and greatest and will fork down $1k or more for a new iPhone every year.
Btw, I'm still using a BB9900. I'm not paying $800 or more for a damn phone!
And yet, people do buy them, time and time. Why? Because they offer value, even at a grand for the top-tier offering. Phone, camera, ipod, video camera, GPS nav, computing device, home automation controller, etc etc.. It adds up, and it’s worth it.

If you think a smartphone is just a phone, then you’re not an advanced user. You’d be better off with a flip phone to call your wife with or whatever.
Hint: other mobile companies accomplish this as well without being greedy.

  • Apple agrees to pay French government $571M in back taxes

Tim Cook says Apple ‘didn’t come to Ireland for tax,

    https://9to5mac.com/2018/06/21/tim-cook-ireland-interview-tax-data-center/

I asked Tim why he lied about this statement and said that it will backfire, his answer:

“We selected Ireland in 1980 when Apple was a small company that had minimum or no profits.  It was selected for manufacturing skills.”

I then sent this but got no answer back:

Former Apple executives claim the almost tax-free status enjoyed in Ireland by the iPhone and iPad maker dates back to the firm’s arrival here 32 years ago. “There were tax concessions for us to go there,” said Del Yocam, who was vice president of manufacturing at Apple in the 1980s.

Another former finance executive, who asked not to be named, said: “We had a tax holiday for the first 10 years in Ireland. We paid no taxes to the Irish Government. ”

Apple wasn’t an exception, although it was among the last to enjoy such treatment. From 1956 to 1980, Ireland attracted foreign companies by offering a zero rate of tax.

  • Apple came to Ireland to build a community, not skirt taxes, Tim Cook says

I believe Tim Cook when he says that Apple didn’t established an office in Ireland in 1980 for tax reasons. However, Apple’s Ireland base has certainly been a convenient vehicle for dodging taxes in recent years.
Agreed.  Tim isn't denying the tax benefits of being in Ireland.  However, in 1980, the climate was a bit different and such advanced tax schemes didn't really even exist.  Apple needed a presence in Europe and Ireland, one of the English speaking countries, would naturally be high on the list to begin with.  There's also the cost of labor, etc. which was also favorable in Ireland.  The point being, I see why Cook's comment raises eye browses given the course of things over the years.  That doesn't make him a liar though.
What do you call him after reading this?

  • Testing the speed of iOS 11 versus iOS 12 on the iPhone 6 and iPad Mini 2

It would be interesting to see a comparison with an ios10 iPhone 6 when ios12 reaches final, but it might be a bit hard to find one.  Mrs Entropy has kept her 6 plus on ios10 because she has heard ios11 slows it down too much.

iOS 10 made my iPhone 5 very laggy and before that iOS 9 crippled my iPhone 4s. Apple shouldn’t allow iOS  versions on hardware that can’t run smooth imo. So I understand that people in general are skeptical about new iOS releases.

If it was possible I would pay to downgrade these iPhones to iOS 6.

So far I’m happy with iOS 11 on 7 +.

Customers like good products and Apple seems to be meeting those demands, pretty much better than all other companies, so they either disagree with you or they don't care as much as you think.

And make no money in the process, great recipe for success.

Perhaps you should stop projecting your own issues onto Apple, its customers and its success, you're really not doing your own credibility here any favours by commenting on business success factors that are refuted so easily by reality. Pricing, product strategy and customer satisfaction aren't the armchair CEO's forte.
They will care when they loose a big healthy customer base.

Apple did extremely well before this money grab. This will backfire. How many will return?
"Apple doom and gloom," one of the internet troll's favourite epithets to hurl. You definitely have a bright future ahead of you in the financial analyst industry, given how astute you seem to be with sales and customer predictions.
I just listen to the ground. My troll tip for you is that there is a Lot less iPhone sales this quarter.

    My posts:

Apples greed has put them in this position, was it worth 50 billion $ in lower valuation? How much has their greed cost in trust? The stockholders can’t be happy with this strategy. ( Correction: Apple has lost 32% of its valuation since October 2018 or 350 BILLION US $ )

Win 10 is a disaster in my eyes. the block design looks ugly and settings are spreed out everywhere = not easy to find, on top of that you get disturbing notifications and ads.
