  • Latest VMWare Fusion tech preview brings Windows 11 to Apple Silicon Macs

I wish AI and others would write clarify Windows 11 compatibility in a clearer way.

They are referring to Windows 11 ARM right?  VMware Fusion will NOT bring Windows 11x64 to ASi Macs right?
    You are right, sadly.
However, I am currently running ARM based windows 10, on Parallels on my new M2 Air. On this windows 10 I have installed my accounting package (was Peachtree now its SAGE) which is Intel x86. Windows 10 emulator is taking care of it. Result - Sage accounting is running very well. Seemingly no slower than it ran on a native Intel Windows PC.

  • Apple debuts $549 AirPods Max over-ear headphones

Looking over the description page at Apple.com, I looked closer at the volume knob and must wonder out loud what in the world were they thinking when they decided to put that closer to the BACK than the FRONT on top of the headphones?

The volume knob will be THE MOST USED function of these headphones. And if a person is lying down on a pillow, as shown in their video/ad, the odds that the volume knob will be accidentally moved or triggered have increased hugely. And the physically awkward placement will also make it more difficult to reach in those cases when something very loud suddenly blasts over the headphones.

This is one of those slap yourself on the forehead moments. Form should never override function on something like headphones.
Here's another head-slapping problem with these, outside of the price as the competition (Bose, Sony) are $200 cheaper.....NO HEADPHONE JACK.

Now I know that Apple has moved away from headphone jacks in most of their products. But one of the key applications for this device is going to be airplanes (when we can all fly again safely). While you may have your iPhone, iPad or Mac with you for entertainment, most airlines have infotainment system screens in the seat back and how do you interface with all of them? A headphone jack.

This had to have been discussed with the design team. For the life of me, I cannot figure out why this was deleted and would be an instant deal killer to get me to abandon my Bose QuietComfort headphones, regardless of whatever cool tech Apple has included with this, or how well they might sound. Also, audiophiles would want a headphone jack to connect to sound systems and bypass the limitations of Bluetooth for an analog experience.
My Freebuds Studio have no headphone jack either and apparently the USB-C port cannot be used with an adapter.

I agree with you though that a headphone jack would have been a very useful option (more power going into the headphones, future proofing BT etc).

At this price it would have been nice but perhaps an adapter will work with these.
This is 8 bucks on Amazon. In fact, why don't knock yourself out, and buy three for 13 bucks:

  • Apple Watch Series 3 with cellular and watchOS 4 have changed how I use my watch

There should be a "find iPhone" app for the watch, so you can locate your iPhone (&other devices)
I hope (assume) that podcasts and other radio streaming apps will also eventually work over LTE
The new OS4 and ability to control media (on iPhone or watch) while running excersose app is clever. OS4 is MUCH better then OS3

My only real gripe is that the watch works well over LTE if the iPhone is left at home, but if you leave your iPhone in the car near the gym (or locker inside the gym) the watch will think its still connected to the iPhone, yet calls and messages won't actually go through ( signal to weak?)
if you put the iPhone in flight mode, then incoming calls often go through to voice mail, and not to the watch ( ATT numbersync)
There is no way to force LTE for example.

Fucking hate these assholes and their godamn bombs. Horrible reading that the nut came to rest in her nose, I'm sure the phone slowed it down at least. I hope Apple sees this and sends her a new one. Hope the best for the survivors...
Asshole is right. Manchester arena is a stones throw from where I grew up. To think that asshole picked this concert because he knew it would be a magnet for young innocent people, the all powerful all seeing omniscient god, except he needs dumb fucks to carry out his will??

In the end, all this is Apple trying to avoid paying taxes, something all of us do compliantly without begging for exception. Apple and other Corporations are simply moochers of a countries wealth whether that be the consumer's dollars or the consumer's labour. They are transient welfare bums.
Your first sentence is actually correct, although you didn't mean it to be. Corporations avoid paying taxes, like we all do, most of us avoid paying taxes we don't have to.

Yes, Apple took a big portion of Ireland's wealth /s

I am quite disappointed at this price. I was really looking forward to spending a few hundred less than these as a Christmas present for myself, Now I’m not too sure. Will have to try them out at a store first, whenever my Apple store opens. I’m sure $549 is fine for professional users, but as a prosumer who just forked over for a 12 pro, these may have to wait till something like an “Airpods Max SE”

    at least, for me.
Im not waiting to try them, ordered already - space gray they should arrive next week. If they are not worth it for me - easy to return them.

I have the pixel XL and am considering the XL 2...my partner has the iPhone 7 plus and we would both tell you that my pixel XL is faster in every regards, the camera on the pixel is better, the pixel charges faster and the battery lasts WAY longer...there is no way my partner is getting the iPhone 8, he is considering the X...and btw, Siri sucks so bad compared to the Google Assistant

All just my opinion of course
I didn't see anything in the article to indicate DED actually tried out the Pixel 2 and 2XL. I think he's just upset about their positive press.  The way Donald trump doesn't like to hear that general Kelly is the adult in the White House.   DED can write some great articles. Some may love this one but I found it disappointing.
I realize you specially signed uo for your single post, but im going to byte on your trollbait....
You are smart enough to know between any headphone / earpiece (is analog), and any processor(is digital), there will be a DAC..
now some old style phones put the DAC just before the nasty 3.5mm (or sometimes 2.5mm) jack plug connector... ( such a jackplug is often an audiophiles second worse nightmare)
in a headphone jack-less iPhone 7/8/X the stream is kept digital even through the lightning connector, and the DAC is at the other side, closely coupled to the headphone transducer.
Now as any half decent circuit designer knows, the (analog) coupling can really be optimized since the whole analog portion doesn't have to go through a connector, and it can be properly balanced and coupled correctly to the transducer.
Personally I liked the jack, because its more convenient, at a pinch i can get super cheap headphones when i forgot my good ones on a trip..
but any audiophile with at least a 3 digit IQ will understand that removing the jack was always an opportunity for them to get better sound, not worse

The BBC today is a clearly left-biased, woke, and anti-reality organization that is blatantly pushing a globalist agenda. It doesn't matter if the BBC leadership is Liberal or Conservative. It only matters that they lie shamelessly, and their 'news' programs are filled with propaganda. No one with a triple digit IQ would believe anything they say without independent corroboration. Saying you work for the BBC is not the flex you think it is.
    Poppycock.
