  • 2021 2nd-Generation Siri Remote Review: The star of the show

I have been hitting the mute button several times a day since Friday. Does that make me dumb? Their focus group must have been 100% potential customers who have never owned an TV. Since they were adding buttons anyway, why not just replace the Siri button with the mute?

    What a bad UI decision.
I couldn’t agree more. The mute and play/pause should be switched.

So is there any reason to use the original method to put the Apple TV to sleep (press and hold center D-Pad)? Is it the same results as using the new power button?
Yes, by pressing and holding the new power button it will power off the tv and ATV

Second night using the remote. The scrubbing with the wheel I can’t figure out the trick. It’s not seem less to me at all. The best result for me is still left to right to scrub. Also while playing with it I somehow got it in picture and picture… I really didn’t mind the old remote at all. Obvious things others pointed out I would’ve liked to see backlighting & Find Me seems like a no brainer. Especially if you have kids? I never had a problem losing the remote.

After 10 days with the new Apple TV and remote I’m returning it. I prefer the old Siri remote. Don’t like this new remote at all.

The 10 second skip is much more reliable than touching and pressing the edges of the old remote. I did like that. But otherwise I prefer the old remote. And the scrubbing is cool but it barely works anywhere other than the TV app.
I’m glad I’m not the only one. After using this now for a few weeks I’m just not in love with the new remote. Still not used to it and prefer the older one as well. I prefer the larger trackpad on the older. And I still hate where the mute is and play/ pause, should be switched. I wonder how someone brand new would like this remote? I still have an older ATV in basement maybe if they both had the new remote I’d be more used to it? You know but it’s just aggravating.

In the screenshot, the time "12:15pm" is on the right hand side. Interesting.. Is it because the top middle of the screen will be camera and sensors? Is "Essential phone" from Andy Rubin designed the same way?
I would like if they would put the temperature on the top somewhere or even have the Weather icon "live" and show it there, that would be cool I think.

Why they got rid of an icon for events is beyond me.

I wonder what those 3 dots are on the back of the Plus model in the picture?

As much as I love Apple I remember as soon as iBooks came out all Kindle books that were $9.99 jumped to $12.99 plus. In favor of this ruling.
So you are in favor of a company like Amazon selling books below cost to stamp out competition?

Try to look beyond the $3 you save per book and look at the bigger picture.  Look at how many jobs and companies were destroyed because Amazon sells items below cost.
If I remember correctly wasn't it Apple demanding the publishers to tell Amazon they must set the price at $12.99 because Apple threatened if they did not then their books wouldn't be available on the iBook store. I could be wrong but that's what I took away from it awhile ago.
