Apple hits $1 trillion market cap, the first US company ever to hit milestone [u]
Rarely mentioned ... (OK, never mentioned), is that IBM got quite a bit above 1 trillion way back when (the 70's), when you adjust for inflation.
But sure, a Trillion is a huge milestone, and I'm not unhappy that Apple was the one to make it. They're still underdogs on Wall Street and while that is weird, it doesn't really matter. They did it the old-fashioned way, and not on hype. -

How to trace an image with your Apple Pencil on the iPad Pro -- and when not to
ArtDir said:Or, you can use your iphone (or ipad) to take a pic of the item you want to trace and import it into your drawing program and use it as a template within the app, assuming the app you're using allows importing images and accommodates multiple layers (one for the pic you're tracing, one for your drawing layer.)
I used to do a version of this with my old Wacom tablet, but in that case you were not drawing on top of a screen, just seeing it appear on the screen as you draw on the tablet. They even built in a thick, clear plastic flap so you could slip the page that you wanted to trace underneath. iPad Pro changed my workflow forever and it saves tons of time. -
Apple taking Maps 'to the next level' in iOS 12
I'll second Retrogustos request for cycling data. Bike commuting has become a big thing here in Seattle with more jumping on board all the time to avoid the horrible traffic bottlenecks (and get some cardio at the same time ...).
I'd like the ability to enter a string of destinations and see the same selection of driving options and estimated time to each destination and the total for the entire trip. -
Amazon, big finance spearhead healthcare effort without 'profit-making incentives'
May or may not relate to this Amazon, Buffet, JP initiative, but one thing I would love to see coming is some kind of way to cost compare hospital health services. I recall an article a while back that shone a spotlight on the difference in joint replacement surgery from one hospital to the next and it was off the hook crazy. From $35K at one place to $80K at another, with the same outcome, and since patients are often locked into one network or other, there is no way to shop and save. (And this is independent of the ACA, although it would have been nice if they had been able to address it).
One recalls the most famous Bezos quote - 'Your margin is my opportunity'. -
Apple counsel attacks Spotify complaints as 'rumors and half-truths'

.... This seems unfair to the Spotify Candy Co, because the theater chain seems to have an unfair advantage. But Spotify neglects to account for the initial and ongoing costs, and business risks, of establishing and running a chain of theaters. If Spotify Candy Co created their own theaters, then they could sell their candies and chocolates at retail prices direct to consumers. Poor, sad Spotify Candy Company. Life is so unfair. -
Apple counsel attacks Spotify complaints as 'rumors and half-truths'

Apple only handles the payment processing, all of the content comes from Spotify.
This is such a hot button issue and I admit that I hadn't thought much about it before this recent kerfuffle. I don't think that a company with a questionable business model should be rewarded much, especially if it's true that they totally lowball their content providers (i.e. - the musicians), but I think Apple has to stay ahead of the game and not be seen as gouging.
I still think that if I was in Spotifys shoes I would do what someone said Amazon has done and offer the Kindle app, which when opened informs the new customer that they need an account to use it. The customer goes to their website, signs away their privacy and then returns to the app and logs in. Spotify gets it all, Apple gets nothing. Everyone is happy.
