US government bans defunct Galaxy Note 7 from all flights citing fire threat
I agree with another commenter on another post, samsung should issue a update that renders the phone unusable or have the carriers somehow disable the units. Would save time looking around on the flight.

While I don't think this situation is funny, was very amused on a Southwest flight the other day, they announced that smoking is never allowed on a Southwest flight so you have to turn off your Samsung Note 7 device and not charge it during the flight.

Why not just take the phone to Apple? If they had to apply a patch to circumvent the security, at least this patch could stay in Apple's hands. Unless this case is not about the data, but more to force a backdoor.

This also makes me think that the unit on the plane was maybe not actually powered down, guessing there is not really a way to know. I see it all the time, the person across the aisle on taxi still texting, putting his phone down every time the attendant walks by. We are not a culture of rule followers.
