  • Editorial: The super exciting failure of CES 2018

“That's why big-headline companies hiring low-paid writers see CES as a goldmine of clickbait--perpetuating its existence and inducing the press to flock to a city replete with little more than flashing lights and concealed guns, despite the fact that more than 540 people were recently shot there by rich white man bored with life.”

I’ve read quite a few thoughtful and interesting editorials on this board for many years... and this is NOT one of them.

This article just seemed self-indulgent, hateful and pointless.

...and what the fck is with the attack on flashing lights and gun rights?!  For fcks sake.

  • Apple TV gets Dolby Atmos support, 'zero sign-on' for cable with tvOS 12

Who has f*ckin Charter man. Pay Comcast’s price - the Apple TV is nothing until it uses actual cable piped into 50% of Americans  homes.

are you on drugs?...just asking because all of your posts are incoherent.

Charter Spectrum is the 2nd largest cable provider in the US.  Who has Charter?.... many.

Why would carriers like Sprint and T-Mobile be offering it for free with new activations?
    fastasleep said:
Because they're not giving it away for free? Maybe you misread but T-Mobile is giving away free 2-day shipping which isn't really the same thing, is it.
And this is why I have guys like Rogifan on “ignore”.  Too bad because he had a FEW valuable things to share about Android.  his obfuscation and exaggeration are too much to bare.

most of us here were aware of the risks due to China especially in this economical and political climate.  And are not surprised that the stock was already taking a small hit.  But the fundamentals in the increasing customer base/activations, service revenue, etc., etc., will keep this ship steady. Hope that there is improved stability with China soon.

also not surprising that the trolls take this opportunity to bash all that they can.  Quite shameful, but it’s who they are.

You mean the 35% - 75% of income derived from food/drink/concessions?  Pretty sure you should just concede that point to Blastdoor.

90% only use Apple earbuds anyways, don't need a 3.5 mm jack --- piss on the other 10%(and all there existing hardware and plus the can buy the special adapter for $$)

I don't doubt you're right but the message people will get is Apple removed the headphone jack to upsell people on wireless earbuds. I think people are getting tired of the constant upsell.
If you don't like the inconveniences of an all-electric high-technology Tesla...then consider a 2015 Hybrid.
If you don't like the inconveniences of a glass-surface stove top...then consider a gas range.

If you don't like the inconveniences of the iPhone 7...then consider the iPhone 6S, 5SE or iPhone 6SE (?).

...because that's what people with brain cells (and other priorities in life) do.

Or you can continue complaining about something that really isn't worth complaining about.
    ...your choice.

Nope. This has already been through the courts here. The movie theaters cannot stop you from bringing your own food and beverages in if they also sell them.

They are movie theaters, not food outlets.

I appreciate the info from Spain.  But you seem to moving the goal posts and your reasoning.  Should Gov change laws based on how much revenue is derived from a product?  If my restaurant also sells t shirts and artwork and now my revenue is 80% food/drink must I allow customers to bring in their own food/drink?  You're reaching (randomly) for changes in law to control private businesses... and in this case, the vast majority of customers holistically enjoy and love their experience with the product/service.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, don't be fooled, this push against Apple is not about consumers, it's about power, control and greed.

  • Apple announces Apple TV+ service with Apple's unique programming, coming this Fall

A two hour event and pricing was announced for only one thing...magazines. No details on this new gaming or TV subscription service. No info on pricing for content provider subscriptions signed up for within the TV app. Way more questions than answers at this point hence why the stock is down.
The stock fluctuates a few bucks every day, no sign today is any different. You’re saying there was a sell off today because they didn’t announce pricing? Good grief. The whole market is down.
You’re both right. Today’s event is a solid look into the future... and those who are paying attention know this was a huge step in the right direction.  Apple Card/News/TV/Arcade are services that will move the stock.  But without pricing and detailed launch dates, it’s difficult to buy/sell shares at this quarter’s juncture.  By default, the market is dissapointed... so what.

what some may have missed is Apple’s commitment to a culture of positivity and inherent good.  This is a long term strategy that I believe is not only morally good, but will sustain financial prosperity as well.  Refer to the event’s focus on artists, storytelling, family-friendly options and Oprah.  The future is bright!

  • Warren Buffett educated Tim Cook, Steve Jobs about the benefits of stock buybacks

    Latko said:
Cook should have better followed Jobs’ track and leave finance to the many professionals Apple has. His companies’ interests are constitutionally different from Berkshire Hataways’
I agree. Buybacks and dividends are generally a dumb use of cash. They should concentrate on growing the value of the stock with continued profitability and market growth, not engage in accounting tricks to satisfy institutional investors.
Yes, because Cook made the decision to buy back shares all on his own and he didn’t collaborate at all with his financial/legal/accounting experts.  You see how dumb that sounds?

And why does anyone think that “financial engineering”, or whatever suboptimal name you want to give it, comes at the destruction of continued profitability or market growth?  Did you even bother to look at the balance sheet?  Apple has cash and is not running out of cash... PLUS what would you use the cash for INSTEAD of buying back shares?  Let me guess, buy Tesla and Netflix and Disney.

I’m not disrespecting your opinion, but are you listening to yourselves?

  • Munster: 4" iPhone doesn't make sense for rumored Apple event in March

Were Apple to launch a phone in the spring, it would quickly look outdated following the iPhone 7's expected September launch, Munster wrote in an investor memo obtained by AppleInsider. He also remarked that having two iPhone events per year would detract from the releases of other products.

Agree that diluting/detracting as well as bringing down ASP (& margins) is a concern.

However, Apple is at a point (as it was with iPod) that it makes sense to expand on product options in order to increase # of users...before competitors do.

In a way, it's similar to Tim's prior remarks that cannibalization isn't by itself a bad thing.

Monetizing off it's strong (and getting stronger) platform is more important at some point in their product's cycle than selling less units (at higher ASPs).

1 Billion active devices is HUGE.
This is where the fireworks will really start...expanding on services while still profiting on hardware.
Who knows what's next?....search and ads?!
