  • Leaked iPhone 15 Pro images back up solid state button rumor

To anyone who's accidentally pushed a button on his phone, why does changing the mute switch to a button benefit the user. Seems like it was done just to benefit Apple. You're going to mute your phone without knowing you did it, you know you are, and wonder why you and Siri are no longer on speaking terms.
Hopefully just a rumor. It would be very frustrating to no longer be able to look at the switch to see if the ringer was off or not, and it’s unclear if this would also mean that I couldn’t adjust volume without taking the phone out of my pocket, but that would be a meaningful step in the wrong direction too, at least for me. And as you note, there would be no clear advantage for the user. Someone might mention something like increased water resistance, but the number of people who really need to take their phone deep underwater is…pretty limited.

  • Man ludicrously blames Apple for his wife catching him communicating with prostitutes

He really puts the “class act” in “class action.”

  • Apple cut too much by removing MagSafe from the iPhone 16e

In the range of possible things they could have omitted to distinguish this model from the 16 that costs $200 more, MagSafe magnets seem like one of the more minor compromises to me. I’m not sure I’d pay $200 for a Dynamic Island, mmWave or ultrawide camera either. Now, if it were a headphone jack…

  • Apple CEO Tim Cook personally invested $1 million in Trump's inauguration

Tim Cook did the same thing with Biden. Also, why did Wesley coin the President-Elect as controversial? He won in an electoral college landslide and also won the popular vote by over 4 million votes. I’d say the country clearly stated who they wanted. No controversy here folks. Maybe let’s just stick with tech news and not show our biased political views in a tech article.
He won the popular vote by 2,284,323 votes. The country stated who they wanted, but for perspective, Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by 2,864,974 votes in 2016. It’s not a big margin in the scheme of things.

  • Apple's long-rumored all-glass tactile keyboard may be real sooner rather than later

I suspect Apple would want to minimize the number of moving parts in their devices, but this sounds like it could be great in all kinds of applications for blind people.

  • Tariffs not stopping Americans from wanting new iPhones with Apple Intelligence

I don’t know what MS is smoking but those numbers make absolutely no sense to me. I’ve seen a lot of surveys and analyst’s reports in the last few months and consistently Foldable’s have been a tiny niche product, and AI is WAY down the list of important items.
The fact that they grouped foldables together with thinner phones could be muddying the waters. I have no interest in foldables, but the way the phones keep getting thicker and heavier is probably the biggest reason why I’ve been hesitant to buy a new phone in recent years—none of the new features matter to me as much as the compactness, so for my purposes the phones get a little worse with each new model, or at best a different set of compromises.

The responses for Apple Intelligence are more surprising to me, but I’m glad some users are finding value there.

  • Only the base iPhone 17 may escape a $50 price hike

There has also been a lot of inflation worldwide in recent years (in many places worse than it has been in the U.S.) due to factors relating to the pandemic, so the new iPhones will probably still cost less than those from five years ago when you adjust for that factor.

  • Google loses to Epic Games in Play Store appeal

It seems like this should only be a issue for companies that essentially have a monopoly, but multiple companies can’t have the same monopoly. You can’t sue every grocery chain in the country claiming that they are using their control over their shelf space to prioritize their own in-house brands and expect to win that lawsuit.

  • US senators question big tech, including Apple, on the reason behind inauguration donation...

We should have much stricter limits on money going to politicians in every case, but there’s also a huge difference between supporting a campaign to help the person you want to see elected, and giving money to the person who has already won the election. I could argue there is also a difference, if perhaps less important, between giving money to someone who could just as easily spend their own but doesn’t see the value, and supporting someone who doesn’t have the same resources at their disposal.

  • Foxconn saw best-ever April revenues partly because of better than expected iPhone demand

Presumably they had to make a few iPads in preparation for tomorrow.
