Thanks for this. As Jodywoodcock noted, it’s very common and frustrating to see all of the news articles that conflate rumors with fact with sloppy or intentionally misleading wording. Rumor websites like AI probably deserve a little more leeway in …

I’ll be interested to see if anyone does benchmarks comparing the top two processors available in the new Mac Mini. I’m wondering if the fastest one will have any issues with throttling due to overheating in that small enclosure.

Apple should sell a version of iPhone with no OS or other software installed, for a much higher price than the current offerings. Almost nobody would buy it, but it would add some clarity to the discussion, in terms of how their business model works…

If I can no longer press the volume buttons through fabric when the phone is in my pocket, that would be an added inconvenience, and if I can no longer glance at the ringer switch to see if the ringer is on, that too would be a step in the wrong dir…

AppleInsider said: Despite a 57% year-over-year iPhone shipment decline in November, investment bank UBS is still bullish on Apple for the long term. Well, I’m glad they haven’t let themselves be swayed, “despite” something that is dece…

If "Energy efficiency and sustainability are on everyone's minds these days," why didn’t they make the laptop MagSafe the standard? It uses fewer materials (which probably includes smaller rare-earth magnets), takes up less space during shipping and…

It’s complicated when people get accustomed to a certain business model and then regulators decide to upend the business model for simplistic reasons. 94% of the apps on the App Store are free to download, with Apple providing a lot of support to de…

Apple has some really talented engineers, and I’m sure they could make the batteries a lot easier to replace, without adding significant bulk or fragility, if they wanted to. I’ve replaced a number of iPhone and MacBook batteries over the years, and…

I wonder if Private Relay will complicate things for services that want to limit password sharing.

I think this would be a very popular product. Most people don’t need all of the high-end features of the Pro laptops, especially given how good the M-series processors are, but most people do appreciate a larger screen.

Apple is not in a position to challenge the Chinese government. Even the US government has limited options in that respect. But it is probably a lot easier and safer to protest against Apple, even if it’s pointless.

That’s not a great way to treat your best customer. Twitter makes 89% of their revenue from advertising, and in the first quarter of this year, Apple was their biggest advertiser. It would take a whole lot of blue check marks to equal the amount tha…

Odio means hatred or “I hate” in Italian and Spanish. Do marketing people not Google these things?

What I would like to see is a 50mm equivalent for the “main” camera, a ~135mm equivalent for the tele, and a 24 or 28mm equivalent for wide, all with top-quality sensors and stabilization. Those would all be really useful focal lengths.

Given that MagSafe aligns the charger, I would think that they could extend the titanium much further on the back if they wanted, just leaving a small glass part in the center. This would make the phone lighter and more durable, and could shave off …

By flipping the structure of the optics by 90 degrees, you can increase the focal length by expanding the structure from, say, the top towards the bottom of the phone, or from side to side, instead of from the front to the back, so you don’t need to…

I’m currently lying on the couch reading AI, and no phone or laptop would be nearly as practical for this. For any kind of media/content consumption, nothing beats it for convenience and flexibility, although there are obviously specific cases where…
