  • Apple unveils new iPad Pro with 3D scanner, trackpad support

I’ve come to terms with the price of the iPad Pro given how awesome it is, but goddamn, those are some expensive ass keyboards.

  • Mac Studio review roundup: Incredible speed, that not everybody needs

    Incredible speed? Really...

Blender 3.1 Benchmark. Blender Benchmark is superior to Cinebench IMHO as it tests multiple scenes with various complexity across CPU and GPU.

    M1 Ultra - 1132
    M1 Max  - 706

    RTX 3090 5552

I guess Apple wasn't using this benchmark suite for their performance graphs.
The Metal backend and Apple Silicon compatibility for Blender *just* came out and it's documented that it still has a ways to go with optimization. I don't think this is a fair test.

  • Apple's Mac Studio launches with new M1 Ultra chip in a compact package

Still not aimed at game developers... they keep speaking about creators and developers in their videos, but clearly not game devs: UE5 is partially working and missing a lot of its core features on Mac, the last M1 Unity versions just keep crashing, DAZ3D doesn't work anymore since the switch from Intel, no Reallusion softs on Mac ... I guess Windows is still the future for us, even if I hate this :( So much power wasted :disappointed:
Sweeney has said he’s committed to bringing UE to ASi.  UE5 is not even released yet, have patience. Is it Apple’s fault it’s not ready yet? Or that there are bugs in the native Unity 3D? Nope. This is definitely aimed at that market whether they’re ahead of some of the software catching up or not. I don’t think Maya, Houdini, Nuke, Clarisse are native yet either. But they’ll get there. After Effects native is still in beta. Many of my plugins for that are still catching up, but it’s happening. Octane X just went native a few months ago. I’m about to sign up for Cinema 4D/Redshift because that’s native. I’ll wait for UE, Houdini, Clarisse, others to catch up.

  • iPhone sales propel Apple's earnings beyond Wall Street expectations

Unbelievable. So much for all the handwringing from the peanut gallery.

Also LOL at calling a $117.15 billion quarter “disastrous”. What a world.

They demoed protools. Forgetting the cost of protools, a 16" m3max with the 40gpu cores and 128GB of ram brings it to up to 5 grand. Too expensive for me.
    So don't buy it? ¯\(°_o)/¯

  • China threatens App Store probe in retaliation for trade tensions

This move from China is smart. What was Trump expecting? He'll eventually have to back off.
Meanwhile, unelected billionaire Musk is ravaging through government organizations, which is completely unconstitutional.
Why did Americans choose this joker? He is a serious danger to the world.
I was about to emigrate back to the US, but we cancelled it when the election went sideways. Who wants to live there?
Because all candidates were jokers, and many citizens did not want to vote for either of them. We are brainwashed to think we have "freedoms" and one of those is the voting. We get vote for one candidate out of two, neither of which we chose and they are two cheeks of the same butt.
Nonsense. The people who talk like this are the ones who don't vote in primaries or midterm elections, or do anything to support candidates that they do like. Dismissing all candidates as "jokers" show how unserious you are about the politics in your own country which have very serious consequences. If you think the outcomes would've been the same with a Harris victory, you're either being willfully obtuse or you're just plain ignorant. Grow up.

  • Apple Vision Pro imminent, with launch rumored at end of January

    Toortog said:
    Yawn NBD.

Call it what it is a paid beta program the Vision Pro will be from finished product, but Apple needs to see how people will actually use it,  shake out the bugs, and start the Fanboys running their mouths about it.    Also Apple need to workout how they will sell it in the future to the masses especially in places that aren't close to Apple stores.  Apple needs developer to get onboard and start writing apps for the Vision Pro and they need them to test with.   This will also generate some funding because the R&D expense on this thing must be outrageous.   If Apple called this an Early Adopters program or similar name they would sell as many but putting it out as a 1.0 will get people with deep pockets to hop on board.

My guess is the actual Vision Pro version ready for the masses will come out in about three years.
    Every. Single. Time.

    LOL

  • Tim Cook sells Apple stock worth in excess of $50 million

Does no on else find this gross, and at the systemic root of wtf is wrong in our country?  Seems like a nice guy you'd root for but then no.  Just another greedy fuc*ing cog in the wheel.  Don't really think he moves the needle either, other than a somewhat impressive Jobs facsimile come wwdc.  Bullshit human being unless I'm really missing something.
Like Steve Jobs the guy doesn’t get paid a salary. Selling stocks is his income. Stocks are only worth something when cashed in.

You’re reading far too much into this than there is to read.
Not entirely true, he does get paid a salary and other compensation, though the stock awards are by far the largest portion of his pay:
Apple says that Cook earned $63,209,845 during 2023, that’s roughly 28% higher than the initially planned $49 million compensation. It’s still down around 36% compared to what he earned in 2022, though.
    • Salary: $3,000,000
    • Stock Awards: $46,970,283
    • Non-Equity Incentive Plan Compensation: $10,713,450
    • All Other Compensation: $2,526,112
