  • FBI contacted Apple, received data related to San Bernardino case 3 days after shooting

It's time to face facts: The FBI rigged this investigation to set a precedence.  They broke the iPhone 5c so there would be no way for Apple to get the data off it.  They are trying to use Apple as an example, but they underestimated Apple as most people do.  Now there is an accurate timeline and we can see how the FBI is trying to mislead the American public to take away our privacy and liberty.

  • Apple squashes iOS 11 bugs with quick release of iOS 11.0.1

iOS 11 really sucks on my iPhone 6 Plus.

Battery life is shitty.  Real shitty.  Battery life is probably down 30-40%.

Apps take fucking forever to open.  So many bugs. What a mess. Rotation sucks.

Tim is really slipping. How do they even release such a half baked version of iOS?

You seriously exhibit all the symptoms of by-polar disorder with how you flip-flop on the drop of a hat when it comes to Apple, and especially Tim Cook... Please remember to take your meds...
My comments about Tim depends on his performance.

It would be more disturbing if I had the same opinion of Tim regardless of how well or how bad he was performing.

Just in the last couple weeks there have been some disturbing screw ups by Tim:

    1. Apple Watch LTE problems

    2. iOS11 bugs

    3. iPhone X supply issues

    4. Weak sales of iPhone 8

    5. AppleTV 4k not working for Youtube, no Dolby Atmos

Its as if Timmy was so busy working on the new headquarters he forgot to work on the REAL products that pay his salary.
It's as if a CEO should be personally involved in the minutia of running the most profitable business on earth or something! How appalling!  Lemme respond since he probably won't:

    1. Just got my Series 3 Apple Watch and then thing that bugs me the most is the red crown.  Actually, had problems getting it set up on launch day, but it seems the was caused by AT&T's systems taking a hit.  Got it up and running and making calls and GPS without my iPhone.
    2. As a developer, I can say that this has been a great build.  I've reported a number of bugs, but most or cosmetic and can be worked around.  Apps developed on older SDKs work well running on iOS11.  Does it have bugs? Yep. So does EVERY NEW OS RELEASE.  The trick is, don't go and update immediately unless you want to be on that cutting edge.
    3. All hearsay at this point. You're applying a rumor to reality.  I'm pretty sure supply will be constrained simply due to the laws of economics.  From the standpoint that Tim is judged on (profitability) he will be doing just fine with a six month back log of $1K+ devices.
    4. Conjecture. I believe that Apple expected this when they released two phones. In the famous words of Steve Jobs, "we rather cannibalize our own sales" in regard to iPad.  Same goes for iPhone X vs iPhone 8.  You're complaining now that Apple is competing with itself?
    5. No, AppleTV clearly supports H.264 and H.265 video standards.  They don't support VP9, a stolen bit of IP designed to get around paying a licensing fee.  It's up to Google to support H.265 and then devices that run it, not Apple.
5b. Dolby Atmos is coming in an update very soon so get over it.

And yes, it's a lot to coordinate moving the worlds most profitable company to a new headquarters. It's a process and it's ACTUALLY something that the CEO is likely highly involved in.  Apple higher great engineers but they do make mistakes.  If you're not making mistakes, you're not challenging the status quo enough.  Trust me, I'm super irritated at Apple quite often, but I also know that they have always "made-good" on many of their endeavors that had fallen short.

  • Google's Pixel 2 XL priced higher than Apple's iPhone 8 Plus but is half as fast, lacks ma...

I don't want to discuss the rest of the articel as I mostly disagree, but
LOL. I'm just as angry on google as on apple for removing the headphone jack.
It's just a big f%!k you in the face of every audiophile.
That's why I will probably get the V30.

    Android forever✌
Actually if you think that the removal of the headphone jack is a slap in the face to "audiophiles", you're not an audiophile.

The reason is that analog audio, especially coming out an 1/8" jack is of poor quality.  In our testing (I write a top-rated music app on the App Store), the audio channels bleed into each other.  For instance, if we pan the audio to the left, it still comes out the right.  This is problematic on any device we tested and is caused by poor shielding in the small headphone jack port.  In addition, you are limited to stereo sound and mono input.  You are also relying on a low quality DAC to translate the digital audio inside of the device into analog audio.

When you move to a purely digital audio route, you allow the headphone manufacturer or other device to translate the digital audio into analog at the last possible stage.  This allows the signal to be processed effectively.  For instance, for 3D sound, separating sound into different frequencies for different drivers.  Digital channels are also not susceptible to interference.  Not to mention the ENTIRE AUDIO INDUSTRY is moving to purely digital audio routing from the instrument through to the mains using Dante or AVB.  It allows audio to be synchronized with other media and to carry additional metadata that is not possible with out hacks in an analog context.

So while it's a temporary inconvenience right now, it's a necessary bump to push the industry to complete the fully digital transition and the benefits that it will bring.

  • Samsung Galaxy S8 fires first salvo against Apple's 'iPhone 8' with 'Infinity' display, AR...

I still don't understand the appeal of bezel-less displays.  Your fingers are going to constantly be blocking the view of the content and possibly touching the screen.  Cases have nothing to attach to and the camera/sensors up top looked crammed in a way that is not esthetically pleasing.  In all.. I'd say this is pretty "meh".

  • Oppenheimer: Apple 'lacks the courage to lead the next generation of innovation'

People don't understand the word innovate. Innovate is to take an existing idea and improve upon it. That's what Apple does. They didn't invent the computer, they just made the best and most marketable one. They didn't invent the MP3 player, the cell phone, the laptop, the connected TV, the smart watch, WiFi... none of these things Apple invented. But what they did do was make the very best version of each of these. Apple makes cultural technology-based icons.

So to say they don't innovate means that the writer does not understand the meaning of the word. What he wants to say is "invent". But Apple is not known for invention. Yes they do R&D and have a huge patent portfolio, but they don't come up with new classes of computing.

All the things that are mentioned that Apple isn't doing, I can guarantee you they ARE doing. But they aren't going to announce it to the world because most of them are probably business flops. What they will do is hone that technology until it's ready and then market it. Apple always maintains the element of surprise.

  • Tim Cook made it clear that Apple won't adopt RCS any time soon

Google has changed its messaging platform more often than some change their underwear. I don’t think Apple wants to put energy into following. They’d rather lead and build a successful product.

  • 2016 MacBook Pro butterfly keyboards failing twice as frequently as older models

My original MacBook Pro 13" with TouchBar was an absolute lemon.  I had to take it to the Apple Store 5 times (at a round trip of about 2 hours).  Had everything replaced.  The battery was "depleted" after 3 months of use... the keyboard was faulty, the TB3 ports were loose all around. Pretty much everything except the screen was replaced more than once.

They finally gave me a brand new 2017 MBPr/t with better specs and I haven't had an issue yet that isn't software related.

  • Android becomes world's most used OS online, Apple's iOS & macOS trail

When you're giving away devices and an OS for negative profit whilst stealing personal information and giving it to the government, you're sure to dominate marketshare. Sadly, you're not going to dominate profits not have any cash to do anything else.

  • Benchmarks show that Intel's Alder Lake chips aren't M1 Max killers

    Serious question:

What does an Intel Core i9 do that requires it to be as power inefficient in the same processing circumstances as an AS M1 Max?

Presumably there's a reason why it draws so much more current to achieve the same ends? Are there features in it that are not replicated in the M1 Max?

I'm assuming the architecture is radically different, but what stops Intel from changing to that architecture?
Power is consumed when a transistor switch from 0 to 1 or 1 to 0. Switching is controlled by clock cycles. The more switching the more power is consumed.
Well, that is presumably a given. And possibly at a slightly lower level than I was alluding to. More specifically, is there some set of processing or overall design feature that Intel does wrong? Or does it do more 'stuff' that the M1 doesn't do? Is it required to support legacy ways of doing stuff that the M1 is free from?
Simply put, it's an inefficient x86 design with larger transistors. It requires more and bigger transistors to perform the same number of tasks which uses more electricity and consumes more power. The architecture is completely different.

  • Doctor ignores default iOS parental controls, child racks up $1,800 in in-app purchases

This is proof that you can be a doctor and still and idiot. He obviously doesn’t understand how life works. Apple didn’t prompt his kid to buy anything. Apple didn’t make the game or force his kid to buy something or leave his kid unsupervised. He could have configured parental controls. He didn’t. This is user error akin to leaving the keys in the family car and letting your kid play in it unsupervised.
