  • Google is pissed that the DOJ may make it sell off Chrome

They should open source Chrome. That way they can still use it, and develop it, while not being a monopoly.

  • Early iPhone upgraders are deeply committed to Apple's entire ecosystem

    It definitely makes sense.

What I think though is that Apple is looking limiting sales by keeping prices so high internationally.

In the US the entry level iPhone is only $600 but elsewhere, like here in Europe, it's more. We pay €750.

Apple needs to have an SE entry model at no more than €500 incl.VAT to help those of us with limited finances to be able to buy one. Do the same across the board:
Watch SE, iPad SE, Air pods SE.

That will help many more people who WANT Apple products to get into the ecosystem.

Go to eBay UK and search for iPhone 13 and you'll see that hundreds of people have a used iPhone 13 in their basket. They're waiting for it to drop but the demand is high.

Apple could have WAY more market share if they catered to us less wealthy.

  • Apple could have sold me an iPhone SE 4, but it won't sell me the iPhone 16e

Keep your 13 Mini, it’s a great phone. Put a new battery in it and it’ll be like new.
Last November I bought a brand new iPhone 13 and it’s insanely fast, smooth and capable. It will easily last many more years.

I agree with you about the 16e. I was hoping for a budget king at €500 including tax. That’s about $420 if the tax is removed. In other words, same price as the last SE. I would have expected basically an iPhone 13 at that price but with one camera. I feel like most SE owners would consider that a fantastic upgrade for the price and it might have made it attractive to budget android users who can’t afford an iPhone normally.

Alas that isn’t the case and instead everyone is left disappointed - both SE users and budget android users alike.

Lastly, at the price they are asking for the 16e - €700 - you used to be able to buy an iPhone 13 and 14 here in Europe. You still can if you find a reseller with old stock.  That is nuts and shows you how overpriced the E really is.

  • Behind the scenes, Siri's failed iOS 18 upgrade was a decade-long managerial car crash

Siri has been a failure due to a stunning lack of vision
at Apple about this. I blame the overall leadership team.

Personally I love Siri and have since it debuted. I’m on iPhone 13 and use it daily to set reminders, alarms, check the weather, read SMS aloud while driving, reply to sms while driving and set timers.

Its best feature is that it works offline. Unlike Google Assistant which is utterly useless if you don’t hand an internet connection.

I‘m not interested in the smart Siri they showed off. The only feature I want added is the ability to ask it a question and get an answer instead of saying “I found this on the web”. If I ask “are onions safe for dogs?” I just want an answer spoken to me based on a web search like Google Assistant does, with some results displayed on screen should I wish to view them in one web.

    But that’s it.

I’m beginning to think Apple needs another Steve Jobs figure who thinks different and has vision and leadership because the organisation has grown huge but is less productive than they should be. I’m convinced there are thousands of employees test probably don’t need to be there.

Fire them. Get lean. Get focused. Make insanely great products. Done.

  • Apple thinks the iPhone 16e target market doesn't care about MagSafe

I get what Apple are saying, but the price is still very high. Couldn’t they just keep the 14 and drop the price? You would have had more features for your €700.

Maybe $600 is cheap in the US, but €700 is EXPENSIVE here in the EU. Especially for a phone.

The regular iPhone 13 and 14 was barely selling at their prices which were less than €700. Local Resellers still have LOADS of iPhone 13 and 14 stock. They are now selling the 13 for €549 where I live. Just to clear stock.

Which is how I got my new 13 last November. And even that was a stretch financially. We don’t earn much here in the EU, and living expenses are high. We don’t have disposable income.

Don’t look at Germany/Austria/Denmark/Switzerland and the UK. They are the exception. Look at the rest of the EU and you’ll find we are mostly poor countries:

Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain

On average the EU citizen is just barely surviving, working just to live. A €700 is definitely a luxury few can afford.
