I see your point Moogs, but just think. Back in January of 2001, the 733 MHz PowerMac had a newly designed motherboard, with 133 MHz bus, write-combining, 4X AGP, and faster memory throughput. At the time, that system made Apple competitive again, y…

I really doubt the G5 is a wet dream at this point. If the Dual GHz G4 had a next gen mobo with DDR, 400 MHz FSB, FW2, USB2, etc, I would be a little worried since this was Apple's next gen machine meant to stay around a long time. However, the Dual…

I don't really believe Apple is having problems with a next gen motherboard, I just think they are working hard with Motorola to get the G5 out the door and shipping in PowerMacs and a next gen motherboard with all the trimmings to go with it. I…

I still say we will see a G5 soon. MWNY is likely the best bet. Apple hasn't released a next gen PowerMac in over a year now. The Dual GHz high end is simply a stop gap, which I'm sure everyone knows. Steve Jobs wasn't even quoted in the press r…

Radar, I'm making these systems as equal as I can. Sure, I can go lower the RAM to 2 256s, but there are some people who want 1 DIMM so they can upgrade to 1 GB, etc. easier in the future. This adds to the cost obviously. Some people want a wirele…

For the money, it ain't bad, definitely a better value than the Dell, but it runs Windows, it's nowhere near as cool, its thicker, and its heavier than the PowerBook. Let's just see what Apple whips out in retaliation before we go badmouthing th…

OK, here is the Dell: P4-M 1.7 GHz 15 inch enhanced UXGA display 512 MB RAM (1 DIMM) 30 GB HD 32 MB nVidia GF2Go XP Pro Combo drive Wireless card Dell Movie Studio ( ) Total: $3787 PowerBook G4 667 MHz G4 15.2 inch widescree…

Radar: Put a single 512 chip in the config instead of 2 256's, add the top end 15 inch display, video software package, and all the trimmings and you've got a much higher price than $2900. Johnson: Yes, I get out a lot thank you. I do realize a …

"Then why bother with 2 cycle latency Trace & Data Cache? why bother with double pumped ALU's? why bother with Load to Store Forwarding? Why Bother with SSE2? Why Bother with a larger ROB than previous x86's? Why bother with Automated Hardware P…

An 800 MHz 7445 would probably run neck and neck with a 1.7 GHz P4-M. Take into account that these are P4 chips that as everyone knows are designed mainly for MHz numbers, and not standalone performance. On top of that they are designed for lower po…

I really wouldn't worry about the next TiBook. The 7445 is ready to rock.

"Compaq" and "bad ***" just don't go together in the same sentence. I'm sorry but Compaq laptops just plain suck. And I'm not just saying that for the hell of it. I used to work at Staples and I was around them all day. Plus, a friend of mine …

This is starting to sound like late-2000 all over again. "Apple's is falling too far behind." "Apple is going to lose the pro market." "Apple hardware sucks." BLAH BLAH BLAH We've heard it all before. People just need to be a littl…

Good lord, I was laughing at the thought of it. There's no way a mobile P4 at 1.6 GHz will take down a Dual GHz G4 tower. I was laughing at the fool who said the P4 laptops would outperform the high end PowerMacs. And how are Apple's prospects om…

A MOBILE P4 1.6 GHz outperforming a Dual GHz G4?

I think FireWire 2 will debut on the next gen PowerMac motherboard, but the next gen PowerBook COULD debut alongside the PowerMac, so who knows. I still think we'll see new PowerBooks in May though.

Wow G-News, you're one of the few who actually get it! People, metal is going to dissipate heat faster, but at the same time, it conducts it faster than plastic so the thing is going to feel hotter than plastic. That's just basic physics.

If IBM can implement this technology into the PowerPC chip soon, the days of having higher MHz are going to be back....

It's also surprising they put a 24X burner in the low end config...

OK, my price was a bit low. $599 would probably be the mark.
