I'm waiting for a G5, especially since I need a high end desktop, but at the same time I also HAVE to have a laptop for college classes, therefore my Titanium/500 will last me. Plus, even if a G5 came out tomorrow I couldn't afford one until at …

I think a lot of what people are saying may come sooner than we think. Macworld Tokyo could be a good venue for a PowerBook refresh. I'd say 667 and 800 MHz 7445s, higher res screens (finally!), larger HDs, external changes to the case, such as a ne…

MMmmmm... PowerMac G5... GeForce 4 Ti standard (at least on top 2 models).... 64-bit OS X 10.2 to take advantage of GF4 and fully optimized.....

BRUssel, OS X is by far much snappier on a G4. It is so obvious to me. Maybe it's because my mom has a 500 MHz G3 iMac and my 500 MHz TiBook feels like a huge leap in performance! Window minimizing/resizing, folder lists opening, dock fluidity- ever…

Apple usually doesn't release new stuff at the spring Seybold conference. Usually its the one in the Fall that makes waves. (G4 in '99) I think Apple's next big rabbit will be the G5, and we'll probably see it either at MWT, or a Special event th…

Yeah, I'd have to agree with MOSR on this one. 667 and 800 MHz 7445 G4s for the TiBooks. Maybe some external upgrades and mobo ones as well.

From what I've read the G5 is very big, and hot, so I doubt we'll see it in the PowerBook until 2003. I think the 7445 Apollo at 667 and 800 MHz will hold over the pro portables until Seybold in August. (or Sept., I forgot)

Brilliant post, Capt. Obvious! I have said and believed for some time now that Apple is playing a big role in G5 development, moreso than a lot of people here think. I think this is why the 8540 embedded chip really doesn't have anything to do with …

I wish some people would realize that just because the Apollo G4 has a lot of life in it doesn't mean that it will power ONLY the PowerMacs until MWSF. Like Applenut said in another thread, do you think Apple will just let the TiBook, iBook, and iMa…

G5 by MWNY. It's pretty obvious that Apple's PowerMac engineers didn't really put a lot of effort into this speedbump. I think they are focused on a much bigger project. The fact that the SOI 7455 G4 hasn't had a lot of fanfare is another indicator …

7455 is the .18 Apollo Moto has been blabbing about! I think a lot of people fail to see that.

PPC 7445 is what I meant. For the TiBooks and iBooks. Well, ok, so maybe the iBooks will migrate to a 7451 first... I dunno. [ 01-29-2002: Message edited by: Tarbash ]

From what I read last summer Apollo was to simply be a 7450 with SOI. Thus, 7455 to differentiate and a 7451 for the lower power variant.

I think Moki said this earlier, but just doing day to day work on a 1.6 GHz P4 system can feel slower than a 500 MHz G4 at times. I can vouch for this personally with my TiBook compared to my friend's 1.1 GHz Dell Inspiron. I've also used the 2.2 G…

TigerWoods, I'd wait until you see some real benchmarks with these new systems before you start rattling off how the Athlon and Pentium "wipe the floor". There are a couple where these new G4s will wipe the floor with them, so don't be so negative. …

Exactly, they can't just let the same pages sit around with 867 MHz G4s being compared to 1.7 GHz P4s... or the graphics pages talkin about the GF3 when the GF4 is now shipping in PowerMacs.

Um, no, I said I agreed with his pricing structure. I think we will see G5s either before or at MWNY. I really don't know exactly when. Nobody does except those close to the project. I'm not trying to foil anybody, I just think a lot of people h…

Oh CRT iMacs are DEFINITELY necessary. i work in education sales and $1199 for an entry level machine for a simple kiosk or workstation is too much for most bulk buyers, especially on college campuses. $699 and $899 for the CRT models have to stick …

Applenut, has your source that originally said G5s at MWSF said anything else since the Dual GHz towers have been released?

I think they may be here before Summer, but MWNY is a good conservative estimate.
