I think I fall somewhere between a casual fan and a hardcore fan. I mean I check Mac news a few times a week, and I know about most the hardware and software. At the same time, I don't follow any of this religiously. It was only a friend of mine who…

up 2 days, 18 mins, 2 users, load averages: 2.74 2.51 2.21 My iMac had been on for about two weeks, but the power went out or something Saturday night/Sunday morning. So now I'm at a small 2 days. Oh well. My load averages seem bigger than most. …

I'm unsure at this point. I've had my iMac G4 with Panther for almost a year now. It'd probably be better (not to mention faster) to do a fresh install, but I have no clue how much I'd need to back up. I mean I have all sorts of applications and stu…

Well I'm not waiting necessarily for a G5 to be in the Powerbook. With the rumors coming out that G4 Powerbooks might be bumped one last time, I was just going to wait to buy until after the final bump. If it turns out false, oh well. I didn't get t…

I don't need it now. My PC can still chug along for a while. I would just prefer to get it sooner rather than later. So yea, waiting for speed bumps is ok.

I think this is my plan now: I'm going to wait until the Powerbooks get their next upgrade (hopefully in the next couple of weeks before my birthday). At that time, I will buy a 15" with Superdrive and an Airport Extreme Base Station. I will probabl…

Yea, I considered buying an Airport Base Station for my house. Mainly because it would be nice to be able to do some computer work in a room other than my own. I don't know if I would necessarily want it for college (unless I can have some kind of s…

Any reason you say get an iSight? I don't see the need in having a camera like that. I had a webcam for a year or so (back in the early days of USB cameras), and I just never really saw the need for it. Just my opinion though.

If only there was the money for that...

While I will agree that dorm rooms are tiny and space is best conserved, there is an increased danger with the Powerbook. It's a lot easier to steal than a Powermac. That's been another worry in the back of my head. Also, I'm still concerned with fu…

That was another option I considered. Getting a cheap Dell laptop (they have one for like $650), and then getting a low end G5 desktop. Not sure what I'm going to do though.

Well I wouldn't necessarily say I have a lot to blow on this computer. I have somewhere between $2000 and $2500 that I've saved up for a computer purchase. I have considered a third option entirely after reading all of your posts. Maybe I should buy…

Does Garageband need a lot of power like you said earlier? I had heard that it doesn't work (or at least doesn't work fast) on some of the laptops. To run it, would I need to upgrade the RAM a lot in the Powerbook? Or does anyone know?
