If you have a year I would wait to see what comes out. If you don't like the Intels you could always pick up a used Powerbook at that time.

Raise it up off the surface of the table some bottle caps or cd cases work well and train a fan on it if the lockups disappear then it is definately heat related.

Don't know if you have done it or not but under Panther when that happens at work 90%+ the machine just needs maintenance.

Ok I installed Tiger and I am happy with the performance but I have one small problem it overwrote out the boot partition. I was dual booting with Ubuntu and now I can't boot Linux. I'll look at that later today or tomorrow.

I can't speak for others but with my 15 inch PowerBook I put the task bar on the right hand side and put my windows on the left and this gives me room for everything.

I'm waiting to hear if it improves performance. I have a 667mhz powerbook and I'm in no rush to upgrade. I am planning to upgrade to a new Mac in the next year or two again no rush so I may just wait for bobcat or whatever is next.
