  • 21K is not a typo. They're using proxy-based caching and level-of-detail support to get 21K in real-time. In other words, if you're zoomed out on a 21K image, you can't see all the details, so why calculate them? Then as you zoom in, you are …
  • Portable Home Directories isn't the same thing as the "Mobile Accounts" feature of OSX 10.3 Server, is it? I sure hope that doesn't get cut, because that's what all our machines here run on for Open Directory authentication (remote authentication…

  • I've also sent this feature request to Apple, actually I'm wondering if they'll enable entering comments right in the finder, not having to open the "get info" window all the time (which is a major drag). You can show the comments field in list vie…
  • Will we find out tomorrow? I would venture to guess if there's no PPC975 announced, then there'll be no G6 soon.
  • are you sure that a large percentage of people who are buying stock right now aren't shorting it? They may be seeing the current situation with no updates, dry supply lines, etc., and thinking that the stock is about to tank with the earnings repor…

  • Quote: Originally posted by kraig911 I wish they'd implement something kind of like collecting files like after effects or quark, maybe just on a per sequence basis to save hard drive space. It already does that. If you select the sequence,…
  • Well I'll be there Kormac, so we'll see who's right on this one FinalEffect Pro-uh oh, I see a war coming . . . DVCProHD . . . please, please let this one happen. All I can say is that if half of what you're saying comes to pass, that sho…
  • I really hope it's not the "video" iPod. I've already signed up for the press conference that morning, and I do know that if Apple unveiled a 3Ghz G5 they would shake (no pun intended) the conference this year. Mouths will hit the floor, and AVI…
  • How come the 970FX is so much slower than the previous 970 at a faster processor speed? 5800 MIPS at 2Ghz versus 7584 MIPS at 1.8Ghz for the previous 970 (130nm) doesn't seem to make sense. That's quite a bit slower.
  • Haven't heard anything on how fast that cluster ended up being, and if or where they now stand on the Top 500 list. Anyone got any scoops?

  • Yah, thanks everyone for the CHUD tools, now my machine is MUCH quiter! The fans may kick up just a little, but it's much better sounding than a constant chirp!
  • Let me post this again: Why aren't the C't scores even close to what IBM annouced for for the 1.8Ghz PPC970 at last years Microprocessor conference? At that point in time it was 937 and 1050. Now C't does a SPEC test and gets some horrible resu…
  • IBM themselves though said that the 1.8Ghz PPC970 would get 937 and 1051 on SPECint and SPECfp. So the 2.0Ghz part should get somewhat higher scores. Do you think they forgot to turn off the bus slewing, or didn't use Darwin?
  • I'm still wondering about those SPEC scores though. Why can't the PowerPC series ever score as well as it's big brother (Power4) on SPEC? A 1.3Ghz Power4 chip scores 1281 on SPECfp, and now a 2.0Ghz PPC970 only gets 1001?? Something doesn't seem …

  • Is there a page where we can compare benchmarks using Gaston? Currently My powerbook 800Mhz can do: fps: .15 total time: 6.456s Be interesting to see how it stacks up against some other machines. BTW, is it also available for Intel/x86?
