Hmm, that's a tough one. Last time I bought a new mac, it came with an up-to-date program allowing me to upgrade to the new OS for $20 if it was released two months from my date of purchase. I think this still applies, but someone correct me if I'm …

Check out the XLR8YourMac.com Drive Compatibility Database and you'll see that several people have already put this in their macs. It works fine after installing the Patchburn 2 driver. The DVR-A09XL model is the retail model which I'd avoid for mac…

It seems to me that Quicktime gets more gimped with every release while VLC gets better and better. Screw $30 for QT Player.

I doubt Apple will buy TiVo. It doesn't fit in at all with the "digital hub" idea. If anyone's gonna buy it, it will be Microsoft. They've been touting that Media Center idea forever and here's their chance to buy out their competitor.

Tried it and NetNewsWire Lite is much better.

I'm not completely sure, but I think that the 4th hole needs to be grounded if you aren't going to use it for mounting. Also, I'm pretty sure the Sawtooth heatsink won't fit the new card.

Apple's mice are the worst.

Why don't you just recreate the toast image file? Oh, I know, probably because you obtained it illegally.

Widgets are meant to be there in an instant and gone just as fast. The calculator widget, for example, is meant to for when you need a quick calculation. It won't replace the normal Calculator app.

The mini is rather limited (256MB, tiny & slow notebook hard drive, outdated GPU). By the time you add features on, the $499 pricepoint is long gone. Not to mention the upgrades are nothing to get excited over... 4x Superdrive... 1GB RAM... 80GB…

If you're very concerned about the 200 watt power supply, you might consider the new 1.7GHz upgrades from Giga Designs/Sonnet which use the lower power 7448. I don't think it should be a problem, though, even with the Radeon 9800 drawing power since…

The reason the 733MHz was particularly slow was the lack of L3 cache.

You need a card that will work in a 4x slot. Your best options are the Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB (retail) or the Radeon 9700 128MB (OEM). Their performance is equal and they both support Core Image. If you're using an ADC display, the 9700 has an ADC po…

I picked up a Digital Audio 466 about a month ago and did the following: G4 1.33GHz/2MB L3 Upgrade (Giga Designs) - $275 1.5GB RAM (crucial) - $150 Radeon 9800 - $249 You only need to upgrade that GeForce2 MX if you plan on gaming. Then again,…

I had one of those bad boys and it will never be decent for web browsing. It's just too damn slow. Word processing is a maybe (like if you were to run Simple Text). By the way, there's a logic board recall for those models. I hope it's already been …
