  • Speaking of Think Secret's "predicitions", prior to MacExpo in Paris they said there would be a firmware update for the mini to bring it the same features as the 4G iPod. Never materialized. What happened?
  • In regards to the depth, the computer is only 2.2 inches, the 7.4 inches includes the stand. Sorry, you meant the box!
  • Base RAM is insufficent, as we all know. Double it to get rid of the stutters, or get two 512 sticks and fly! The iMac is NOT a pro machine. It fills the needs of most people. 7.5 million lower powered iMacs have been sold. This version will su…
  • The larger "gap" at the bottom has been prevelant in the Polaroid print image for years. Also, if you have a signed art print and have it framed properly, the area beneath is always somewhat larger then at the top. I agree, it is a nice look and i…
  • Went to another Apple Store nearby since they had a 20" iMac on display. It was the Wellington Green Mall in Florida. Smallish store (compared to the Town Center one nearer me.) While admiring both the 17" and 20" I spoke to several customers. O…
  • MacMall doubles the ram to 512 for a $40.00 fee. They are also offering bluetooth installed (keyboard and mouse included) for about $200 extra I believe.
  • My local Apple Store had a 17" on display. Only the power cord was run through the hole. 4 other cables were plugged directly into the i/o ports with ties around them. Go figure.
  • Unlike my current swing arm iMac (17") the new 17" and 20" are, in fact, proportioned the same. The previous 15", 17" and 20" iMacs used the same size base and swing arm but the screens, naturally, were larger and larger. The current models have d…
  • When the product arrives at stores I'm sure an answer will be forthcoming about voltage. In the meantime check the following: http://developer.apple.com/documenta...cG5/index.html
  • Huh? Another thread on the same subject? Read the Apple Insider report. Call your local store and ask.\
  • Stores may have demo units (possibly the ones on display in Paris) but I doubt they will have any for sale. Shipping will probably be via air from Taiwan (as previous when new iMacs were first introduced). Just a guess, of course.
  • Looking at the screen of the new iMac reminds me of what a Polaroid Spectra (now called Image) print looks like: There's really not anything new, just the "execution" of the design. In this case the new iMac is very well done in my opinion.
  • Certainly it's not a knock off. The headlines for the original story implied that. So much for truth in "advertising". It is more Vaio-like then iMac. It does have a built in camera though. I suppose it would be considered somewhat interesting …
  • I received an email from MacMall stating they were "in stock".
  • Funny. But in actuality, it's not really an ad that will be presented on TV. It's much too long - TV ads run 30 or 60 seconds. I also think the TV ads will show the product more prominently, being shorter, rather then wasting time as this one doe…
  • Apple is going to use "word of mouth" to advertise the new iMac rather then run TV ads.
  • All my cables are on the back of my Sunflower 17" iMac. There is some clutter because of it. However, the new iMac has a central hole in the stand where you can route the cables through. Seems a good idea to me as it keeps them close together an…
  • Actually Dvorak hated the name. He wanted to call it a "rat".
  • No he's not a good writer. He just knows how to push the buttons of Mac people. He had a column in Macworld... The Last Word type of thing on the back page.
  • He still thinks the "toilet seat" iBook is available. He has been wrong so many times, like Thurott and Enderle. But it doesn't matter. His constituency is PC users. He serves a purpose by boosting their morale when Apple wows the world with new…
