  • [quote]Originally posted by Macintosh: Most people do not have an unbreakable attachment to a computer brand or company. The best product wins, and best means quality price performance ratio. Apple has the BEST products right now for consumers whi…
  • [quote]Originally posted by dividend: so many agree that apple hardware is not what is should be. however, we should recognise one other thing - when apple had better desktops and portables we did not see a floodgate of new customers. That's rig…
  • I totally agree with what is being said here. There are 2 iMac owners in my family that have owned multiple Macs in the past, and they will be dropping Apple in 2002 for their next computer purchase (soon). I will probably follow them, after bein…
  • Lets face it, here. The CIA and the FBI have severely bungled this whole affair. And it cost lots of innocent lives. Don't believe for a second that the CIA had no idea about this plot. We will never know how much they were onto, but Egyptian …
  • It is not just France, by the way, you guys. The French foreign minister expressed the general feeling of the entire civilized world's leaders, and more importantly our best allies, in his criticisms.
  • [quote]Originally posted by Amorph: 1) This means redesigning the motherboards. You can't just stick a P4 daughtercard in there and expect it to work. For one thing, it reads and writes data the wrong way. OS X goes all the way back to squar…
in OSX on wintel Comment by ricain May 2002
  • Thanks to some of the above posters for their positive comments. The argument that OS X on Intel = Apple death, which seems to be taken as a foregoen conclusion by most people, to me is at the heart of the problem. If it is so simple, if lower co…
  • [quote]Originally posted by Xaqtly: If OS X ever becomes available on x86, Apple might as well stop making hardware altogether, because nobody will buy it. They'll go for the clones instead because they're hundreds, perhaps thousands of dollars che…
  • [quote]Originally posted by Scott H.: I'm still looking for OS X to break out. So far it hasn't. The only real thing it offers over 9 is stability. (snip) Bugs continue, features are still missing. Apple needs to give people a reason to switch ove…
  • Try to connect to your iDisk with "Goliath" from Versiontracker. Then weep at how crappy Apple's iDisk implementation is.
  • [quote]Originally posted by FellowshipChurch iBook: As a matter of fact... everything is slower on my iBook. I'm afraid that's the sad truth. I would like to add an iBook to my existing Mac setup, but the speed issue under OS X is making me wond…
  • MhZ is at this point the only solution to the Aqua sluggishness syndrome. Apple gave it all they had in 10.1 to increase speed. It only goes downhill from here as they add features/bloat. Quartz needs mHz and main memory bandwidth.
  • Here is a good example of why marketshare matters:
  • [quote]Originally posted by ZoranS: <cough> Why does every 3 in 4 peeps I see talking about market share keep harping on about percentages? If one year their market share is 500,000 customers and the next its 600,000: wouldn't you…
  • [quote]Originally posted by jccbin: It's called an iPOD, not iMusic, not iHardDrive. Its very name implies that it can serve multiple purposes, and that it WILL. Not necessarily: Pod => Greek for "Foot" => Walk => Walk…
  • [quote]Originally posted by Junkyard Dawg: I still find this development depressing. Although I don't give the register article much weight, if true, it then it spells out the truth: we're going to be two steps behind x86 for the foreseeable futur…
  • [quote]Originally posted by Blackcat: This "switch platforms" thing people threaten is just daft. You can't just switch - you have to replace all your needed software, maybe some of your peripherals, then relearn everything as well. It's not li…
  • [quote]Originally posted by jdbon: Well to get back on topic, the consensus seems to be that a minor speed bump will occur this week (snip) For the average Mac user (the ones that do not spend absurd amounts of time lurking on the appleinside…
  • [quote]Originally posted by sizzle chest: It simply isn't an option for Apple to try to play Dell's game. If you're comparing Dell machines to Apple machines and wondering why the price difference, there are lots of reasons for it. The biggest …
