Keep in mind the "Wild West" of pre-SDK iPhone development. Even within Apple, there were employees (myself included) told by their manager / director to just jailbreak their own iPhones to get a head start on development, knowing they would receive…

Looking at the Maps app on my Mac, I don't see the word Russia coming up when I browse around Crimea. For example, type in "Simferopol" to jump into the city center. Tap some of the businesses, for example a "Like Hostel" and it comes up "Bulvar Len…

When I click "Start Listening Now" on Apple's web page, It brings me to iTunes and alerts me "Apple Music requires iTunes 12.2 or later." Of course, when I click on the "Upgrade" button it brings me to the web page showing the current version of iTu…

I think Philips took a lot of flak (vs LIFX) for having a separate hub, but I've always seen it as an advantage. If they can't work out HomeKit support with their current hub, I'd gladly pay $20 or so for a new hub to preserve my investment in Phili…

Does anyone have HomeKit hardware in their hands already? Lightbow already supports Philips hue, LIFX, and Belkin WeMo, but the next obvious step is HomeKit, once it actually exists (!!!). We're currently looking for beta testers to help bring the m…

Philips hue is more than a gimmick. I can't speak for all app developers, but I have thousands of users in 50 countries doing all sorts of awesome things with their lights. Small theaters running shows on an iPad instead of an expensive lighting rig…

Thanks for doing this article! The Philips developer community is a really cool ecosystem, and in stark contrast to similar products (I'm looking at YOU, Belkin WeMo) Philips actually has pretty good relationships with their developers. Buying apps …

Your mileage may vary, but the trade-in program on Apple's own website ($205) quotes me $10 more than Gazelle ($195) for my Verizon iPhone 5 black 64GB. I'm surprised to see this isn't mentioned in the article.

"Apple has also baked remote access into its system, which ensures users will be able to check whether they locked the front door or closed the garage — and fix it if they didn't — when they are away from home." How is this possible? Either your H…

This would be wonderful. I was sad to see a bunch of solicitation emails right after I posted my first app on the app store offering me tons of fake reviews (and Facebook likes) in exchange for money. It's ridiculous. I've so far maintained the mora…

Yes, you could probably go in and tune each individually, but that's a pretty big hassle. Every time you want all of them to be the same color, you'd have to go and tweak each one individually to match.

I agree. The Philips Bridge may sound clunky, but you plug it in and forget about it. Sounds much better than wondering what happens if someone turns off the light switch for the bulb that happens to be my LIFX "master" bulb. I'm excited for 2014 to…
