  • Quote: I actually kind of hate Preview. I can't remember why at this moment but i had to stop using it. Because whatever you open with it, there's probably something better (quite possibly preinstalled) ?
  • There are Radeon 9600s without fans. They probably don't have a significantly greater texel throughput but they are better at PixelShader 2 operations.
  • For those interested in how the 5200 Ultra stacks up, there's a list at http://www20.graphics.tomshardware.c...229/index.html. It has a 50% faster core speed than the regular 5200 and a more than 50% increase in VRAM speed, so it would probably be b…
  • Quote: For all those, "I can build my own machine for ...". Just one question. Did you build your own car? No? How LAME is that. If you built your own car it would be much faster and cheaper. Losers. Just when you thought no-one could come up wi…
  • Quote: And for you bashing the video card bashers, keep in mind that OS X actually uses the video card itself very heavily And Tiger 10.4 uses the GPU even more, with CoreImage/CoreVideo. Quote: As for the video card Amorph has given example…
  • (That is, 1:2 with the same end core frequency). It's just for product differentiation (probably not really, but I'm sure someone will try ).
  • I'm awaiting the super-haxxor mod that puts the bus at 1:2 (OK, 1:4 DDR).
  • Don't worry, it'll all be over soon. Until next time.
  • Quote: Five slots: one 4x AGP and four open 64-bit PCI Low end PowerMacs are not quite the same market as the iMac.
  • WinFS and Avalon were the two main features of Longhorn. Is there anything interesting left? Paul Thurrott: no surprise there then. (Perhaps he's trolling for hits from outraged Linux/Apple fans?)
  • The 8500 became the Radeon 9200. It's good to hear that Doom 3 is playable on a low end Athlon with an 8500 as it's what I have in my PC.
  • I thought it is hub powered? A single cable (which you'd ahve to connect your iPod with anyway) hardly constitutes a mess.
  • Quote: "Let the mystery be" MY ASS! Hmmm. In what way would you say your ass is mysterious? How many anti-Da Vinci code books asre there? It seems to be a mini-industry.
  • No, if you download Panther you will be shunned by everyone. Tiger will most likely be a stand-alone OS, with no upgrade offers.

  • G1 was the first generation of PowerPC, the 601. G2 was the 603 and 604 the subsequent 603e/604e. The PowerPC generation number wasn't used as a marketing term until the G3 (750) arrived.

  • Turn it upside down and look for screws near the joins in the case. They are probably quite deeply recessed (Could be a pain if they're hex or Torx bolts rather than Phillips screws).
  • Note: the Mac special edition does indeed appear to be a 9800 XT (or thereabouts), rather than the normal PC 9800 SE (which has half the number of pixel pipelines as normal 9800/9800Pro/9800 XTs). Ati's naming scheme is truly bizarre.
  • If you disconnect the internal monitor enitrely it should support the highest resolution that the monitor connected in its place supports. I wouldn't expect that the video card is the limiting factor.
  • If it's anything like the rev. A iMac disconnecting it shouldn't be too tricky. If the guts (motherboards, hard drive/CD drive) of the iMac comes off in a tray you can just unplug the monitor from the back of the tray. I'm not sure how that would af…
  • They may get some money but I seriously doubt that there's actually a contract between AllOfMP3 and the record labels. Does anyone else have any more info on the relationship between labels and AllOfMP3 ?
