in parallels can't you already run mutliple copies of OS X, if that's what you choose to use it for. I believe most users use it to run windows, but they could run 3 copies of OS X if they wanted to, right?

Chucker" are you running Vista beta 1 on your mac?

is the IBM fan obnoxiously loud, or just runs a lot?

I actually think I'm going to buy a cooling pad for mine. Only about $30 and could be the answer I'm looking for.

True, I don't think apple would have to any version of the XP core in order to virtualize windows. Having the Intel chip is enough to allow this. I do agree though that it seems somewhat strange that Leopard would include this technology, but most…

fyi, got an e-mail yesterday morning saying desktop RC2 is available for download from the parallels website. plus, it includes a version of the compressor tool.

interesting stuff. let me know if you figure out how to get it going...so it's only supposed to be able to run on Next boxes?

give it a few weeks to get some programs on it, get a little angry, and it'll get hotter.

i'm not familiar w/ Next...can you tell me about it?

Archstudent & Mikef: What makes you so sure Leopard won't include virtualization? I'm not totally disagreeing...just playing devil's advocate. Many other users make good points that sounds as though leopard will in fact include this technol…

150 is ridiculous. I can't believe they allow these things off the shelves at that temperature. still, plenty of people are buying them...

hmm, that's a problem blackbird...if you just want to try out Parallels, and are familiar w/ linux, I know there are a bunch of free distrobutions you can download off various sites. As far as getting a windows disc, see if a PC buddy has one...

I agree that virtualization could be huge for businesses that want to use macs but need some windows applications. my boss is a perfect example, he's a mac guy who's been forced to use a PC, but as soon as Parallels was released, we went out and got…

def can't work with your MBP on your lap. no shot. gets way too hot even if you remove that thing.

well, I'm not super technical about how viruses affect OSes, but I just think that putting Windows so close to OS X would open up a world of issues. This could be a virus developers dream come true.

did you try using parallels compressor?
-
well, if you're running OS X and Windows side by side, it should be easier to copy paste files...that'd be one way to transfer a virus easily...

I think apple would be dumb to offer the ability to run Windows right in OS X. what if you get a virus that infect your mac? the way it is now, apple could say, "You used Parallels, it's a third-party program, it screwed you up." But if they're o…
