Conroes are definitely out there in significant numbers, check the Intel forum at xtremesystems.org if you want to see benchmarks. Interestingly, not a peep anywhere on the net about Woodcrest. Intel obviously have them locked down REAL tight.

If Woodcrest is SHIPPING in June, then I would expect to see the Mac Pro Towers announced late May/early June. Apple isn't going to want to sit on them for 2 months (announce 7th august shp immediately) now are they? Even Siggraph is too late. The…

yeah only 3 years late....

Are you at Renaissance? I though they were strickly forbidden to post on such rumour-moungers as AI! Interesting tho, thursday announcement (California time) seems odd though, is it the end of NAB yet?

I just meant that because they are running faster (3.0 and 3.33Ghz on a 1333FSB) there is going to be more heat, I thought they had a 80w or more TDP? Which isn't far off the G5...

Apple: Tablet, Mac Mini becomes Media Center, Workstation with Woodcrest Xeons, Conroe goes into iMac or new desktop. No one cares about the iPod Tech; Neither Xbox 360 or PS3 gain market dominance, same with HDDVD and Bluray, as consumers fail…

If you want to look at 13 inch widescreen now there are plenty of windows laptops that can give you an idea of what the screen is like to look at. I think 1280x800 on a 13in screen will be fine in OSX. I think if the price is an issue then wait, but…

Although remember the most likely reason Woodcrest is coming early (apart from Xeons being crucified by Opterons) is that the Workstation/Server platform is less heat sensitive than the Conroe and esp. Merom platforms (mobile). They are the first of…

Apple certified resellers/repairers are the only people who would have the actually Apple motherboards and cannot sell them to you at any price, its in the contract. You will not be able to obtain the actually boards anytime soon (until dead out-of-…

Quote: Originally posted by onlooker I'm sorry Thereubster, but the PowerMac is not Apples desktop the iMac is. PowerMac according to Apple is a Pro Workstation. It'll be using Woodcrests. Which BTW is the next Processor coming from intel. It's r…

THe powermacs will use Conroe, that is definite. They are all dual core processors. THere maybe a workstation class Mac using the Woodcrest Xeon CPU (or 2 of them more likely) as a direct replacement for the Quad G5

so how's the overclocking going? Is it multiplier unlocked?

Can anyone installing Boot camp confirm if the Driver disk includes Intel HD audio drivers for the audio chip and does it support the digital optical output? Thanks for your help

Hey as a fellow Kiwi I encourage you, nay, ORDER you to install windows using Boot camp then see if it is multiplier unlocked (ES chips usually are) then overclock the hell out of it!! (Brave) people are getting 2.6 ghz out of their yonahs at defa…

Looks like the new Shuttle Mac mini competitor might suddenly be more attractive as well http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/mobile/...226223550.html its bigger sure, but not by a lot, ATIX1400 graphics, 3.5 inch HD MCE support, seems a better option (dep…

Surely the X1300 is the obvious canditate for the Mac Mini, or maybe the x600 from the last iMac G5? I bet Apple got those pretty cheaply now they are obsolete, it would still be a hell of an upgrade from the 9200 in the current mini.

I thought the copy-protection in BluRay/HD-DVD was pretty much uncrackable? (I realise the same was said about DVD) and that the OS level decryption required (+HDCP) would make it useless to do so. I'm not going to buy into the whole HD era I've d…

yes, surely you know that by now?
