  • I think the reply above was clear. If your external drive is formatted as FAT 32 then your Mac can read/write to it - but not as fast as if it were formatted by the Mac to HFS+.

  • Assuming you are running OS10.3 or later, simply launch Disk Utility.app and format the new drive. Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility.app (You'd have got a quicker reply if you'd posted this in the Genius Bar instead of here!)

  • I grew up with the Finder since 1987 so I don't dislike it. My concern about Leopard (getting back on topic) is that I still use several "must have" Classic Apps and I don't suppose for a moment that Leopard will continue to support Classic.

  • As mentioned above, EPSON Scan can assemble scanned pages into a PDF document quite quickly. However, it embeds them as (I think) JPEGs. If you want to have OCR text then use Omni Pro X. There are other alternatives but I haven't found any that work…
