Viruses will be rare. Its the vulnerabilities that will matter more. Most of these are irrelevant won't affect the home user as all services are disabled by default.

All ports were disabled on OSX by default. Check the /etc/inetd.conf file to seen what ports have been uncommented. I normally have to enable ftp, telnet and ntp by hand. If you are talking about other ports then ignore this mail.

I don't think you can turn a zombie back to a child process. For whatever reason the child process lost its parent and turned into a zombie. A kill -9 should get rid of it though.
