  • i think it might be the accelerometer that was put on the newer MBP, the base for some of the hacks. it parks the drive when you move the system around. I say screw it & just use it.

  • See if it errors. I don't think the transfer properties are always correct. Try (tria) Transmit or Fetch. You can also try CMD+K from FINDER (connect to server) & see what happens there. You will be able to download only from the server.

  • I don't care for hitachi much, haven't had good luck with them but as long as the drives don't have a sudden motion sensor built in, you should be good to go (not always the same thing as "shock protection" all drives have that).
