  • i think it might be the accelerometer that was put on the newer MBP, the base for some of the hacks. it parks the drive when you move the system around. I say screw it & just use it.
  • NEC chips are native to OS X. they don't claim mac support tho, but macsales does. both options are under $20 (before shipping). http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2 http://eshop.macsales.com/item/IOGear/GPU202/
  • hold cmd option P R at startup until it chimes 3 times. put the disk in & restart, this time hold option. see what it gives you. is the disk a dvd? your drive might not be able to read dvds, depending on how old it is. try an external dvd dri…
  • pull the battery & charger & hold the power button for 20-30 sec.hold down cmd option P R at startup until it chimes 3 times. if that doesn't fix it then it's the logic board starting to go.
  • press your f key that toggles the mirror vs extended screen option. it looks like 2 squares overlapping each other.
  • You can only put devices on range extender that's apple devices. The BT hub must be using a chipset that's not compatible with the Apple's chips. Now if it's a passive device, just accessing the network, then it should still work OK. The devices…
  • The non-OEM gets you 60 days (crappy) phone support from India & lets you call to beg, reauthorize Vista on another machine. NOT worth $400 to me, IMO. GO OEM.
  • See if it errors. I don't think the transfer properties are always correct. Try (tria) Transmit or Fetch. You can also try CMD+K from FINDER (connect to server) & see what happens there. You will be able to download only from the server.
  • I think you are correct, that system, you will have to re-partition the drives to 120 GB or so. It should then be able to use the whole drive, but just mounted 2 partitions for each drive. you will also have to get the 2 ch IDE cable, which is prett…
  • Pull the drives, make sure they are SATA II, there are NO jumpers on the pin block, put the drives back in, & hold CMD Option P R at the same time at startup.
  • You will only be able to erase from the Install DVD... FYI Macintosh HD: That will erase the partition. Doing the ROOT device will wipe ALL partitions (there are a couple hidden ones) & rebuild the Partition map. If you are doing this to…
  • Adobe apps are mostly CPU intensive. Aperture & Pixelmator are the only 2 that I know of that really utilize the GPU for photo editing. Unless you want it for games, spend the $$$ on more RAM or extra backup space. RAM will make the differen…

  • Yes, call the toll free number for support in Canada. I think it's the same agents that cover the US as well. They will either fix or replace it, no problems. You will not be charged either, unless it was dropped or neglect. 3 issues in a year w…
  • Did you run the firmware update for the keyboard? SHot in the dark... See if the keyboard or mouse show up under anything in the System Profiler (Apple Logo > About this Mac > More Info). They should be listed under the USB devices. If…
  • As we say here in the "States", your mileage may vary... either one of those drives should work for you. The Samsung supports NCQ (native command Queueing) which helps the seek times (1ms faster than the hitachi, not much faster!)
  • I don't care for hitachi much, haven't had good luck with them but as long as the drives don't have a sudden motion sensor built in, you should be good to go (not always the same thing as "shock protection" all drives have that).
  • Try clicking the actual partition itself & hit the mount button. There is a diskutil & mount terminal commands you can try: http://www.ss64.com/osx/ This is why anyone that partitions like this should be scoulded. Sure, you may have…
  • Can you boot from the DVDs? It sounds like it's DOA. Demand a new one so you get the new rev!
