Wow, Excel more useful than word shocker!

if a company chastised me for daring to expect customer service i'd think twice about giving them my custom, regardless of who they were.

I've found out now - use disk utility to create a disk image. Name it something that sounds like it's a system file and password protect it. job done!

thats why it should also be invisible to spotlight searches.....if it can't be seen then it can't arouse suspicions.

Well the G5 wasn't going to be brand new, it was going to come second hand from ebay, and secondly it was also going to form the basis of a home theatre set-up, so i didn't think it was going to be complete overkill. However, on reflection and s…

i think they were on the desktop actually. it's not a problem, i can just download them again. i've never had a problem when upgrading apple stuff before so it just stood out for me really. I had the apps in the dock too, and their icons turne…

Yeah, I forgot to mention the hire thing. I think, overall these schemes are not really worth it.

the basic and higher rate thing is referring to tax brackets. If you are a basic rate tax payer you will save less on the package. The way the salary sacrifice schemes work is the company takes the money out of your pay-packet before the gover…

in fact it was a problem with the latest version of the updater not recognising my ipod. Trying the same thing with a previous updater (all i need since I have a touchwheel model) rectifies the problem.

Thanks for the suggestion - I tried it when I got home last night, but it didn't work. The ipod is recognised by iTunes but not the updater. This problem is dealt with on the apple support page - it seems i'll need to delete the ipod driver using…

you say you enter the password/key in exactly the same way as you do on the windows machine, but if you are entering a hex key then you need to preceed the key with a dollar sign ($) when you enter it on the mac. I'm sure you realise this, but it…

I was reading aout WPA this morning - if a WPA network detects an attempt to "break into" it, it will shut down for one minute. Someone is trying to connect to your network!

Not experienced that I'm afraid, but i did have a problem with iTunes at the weekend. I docked my iPod for the whole weekend continuously as i wasn't going anywhere I would need it. The iPod is a 20GB 3G model with about 11GB of music on it. At o…

There is an App named Wiretap which will record whatever audio your mac is playing at the time. I sometimes use it to record audio streams of websites such as the bbc and it does the trick admirably. Beware though that it will record *all* sound…

In the UK the Golf is an iconic car, and VW damn well know it - they trade on the fact that it's one of the most popular and timeless cars on the market. It's the refined choice. I want a Golf, and declaring this in front of any male in the 20-50…

In europe they don't indicate where you have been TO, but in fact tell people where you are from. I.e if i was to travel from my home onto mainland europe i would have a GB sticker on the back of my car to signify i was from Great Britain.

Thanks. Just looked at the technical specs page on apples site - it's all in there. D'oh!

Ok, thanks for the reponse guys. I thoroughly checked all connections (i.e the phono inputs at the back of my stereo, and the mini jack) to make sure they were all fully pushed home and they were. Then i opened this Audio MIDI setup utility an…
