  • back to the topic: I first heard of the SED displays as being used in digital cameras, the low power comsumption may help with "live preview" something Sony is doing with the R1 (the R1 uses a lower power CMOS sensor to help achieve low power consum…
  • not only the nano but the mini is going for more than list on ebay, saw this at ilounge.com and didn't believe it but checked and it is true, geez $275+ for a mini--- almost tempted to sell mine and get a new 30 GB
  • my guess is that there are a lot of homes like this one in which one person (the SO) needs windows to access work (can do it with a Mac but they keep changing the firewall/access and their Mac support sucks etc etc) so dual boot machines look good (…
  • the Shuffle is still the best gym/exercise iPod-you just set it and go (you can't look at it while exercising anyway) - and it is the most durable so you don't have to worry about it getting scratched etc.
  • not too surprising: ship dates for powerbooks and desktops are now up to 3-5 days (except for the 12" powerbook)
  • yes, one reason is to see who makes the components... for example, a small company making a key iPod component could see a big increase in revenue
  • the prior generation 14 inch iBook is now $295 cheaper than yesterday (at MacMall) and that is probably a reasonably good estimate of the value of the updates
  • my guess is that Apple will try to have any iBook update before the back to school purchase season starts which means sometime in the next couple of weeks (have two nieces who are just starting to look and have told both to wait)
  • haven't given this much thought but it may be possible to have a user that is running XP (at edu prices XP is about $15 and VPC about $200) and a user running OS X- can do this now with X11 to run various UNIX apps without cluttering up the OS X des…
  • lets see..... what sort of mass market device could use bonjour, H.264 and wireless and be about the size of a mini and....... and isn't this the year of HD?
  • have also put 10.4 on my pismo 400 (576 MB/20GB) and everything is fine so far, don't expect much speed (xbench of 39 with 10.4) but fine for email and surfing which is about all I use it for (it even does Photoshop 7-in a pinch-without too much pai…
  • suggestion: with carbon copy cloner it is a good idea to erase the target disk and fix permissions (on the source disk, can set this as a CCC preference) before cloning..... have done many, many clones using this procedure with zero problems
  • one suggestion is to get the 23" screen now (I have one and it is great) and then wait for the processor upgrade unless you are doing video in which case you need the cpu cycles
  • clone (backup) then archive & install (once at home, once at the office)
  • uh, is this actually news? Mac Minis have been on the Best Buy web site for awhile now (and listed as available in all of the stores in CT)
  • grab a clip off of a spare hands free set and use it to keep the earbud/earphone wire in place, only accessory you need
  • the web site is http://www.dougscripts.com/itunes/index.php and there are scripts for doing this (only for Macs though)
  • the problem is more power density (watts per cm**2) than power consumption, there may be some clever way to use a liquid to transfer heat to the metal case which could act as a radiator (or other solution) to get the heat away from the 970 fast eno…
  • lets see, the case is metal so where does the antenna go? I, for one, would never use a radio function, what makes the iPod so useful is that it does one thing really well you can get a really small AM/FM radio for about $30 at any of the usua…
