  • Apple to unlock iPhone's NFC chip capabilities in June, report says

Tapping an iPhone on Beats headphones to pair them would be easier I think. Same goes for the watch and the HomePod. .
That would be a step back from current setup. No tapping required as of right now with any Beats with the M1 chip, or AirPods. Detection and setup can start automatically for watch and HomePod when they are turned on and close to the user's iPhone.

  • Wireless Apple CarPlay support included in new Pioneer dash receivers

With so many cars integrating so much into the OEM head units these days, how many people are putting aftermarket units like this in?

The touch didplay in many cars is used for ride settings, tire pressure monitoring, launch control, etc.
There are MILLIONS of used vehicles out there, many of which still get upgraded with the latest aftermarket tech. There are still many new cars with basic head units, and many of those owners are upgrading to aftermarket for various reasons.

Technology aside, Apple has been strangely quiet on how augmented reality can be practical. They just leave it to external devs. Almost everything has been gimmicky stuff as of now.

When introducing amazing new technology Apple should always release it with a killer app to prove it is amazing. Also, work with developers to make sure there are a heap of killer apps in short order.  Over and over again Apple just release something cool and then there is no follow up, so it just withers.
The touchbar is another recent example.

I totally agree. Technology is just an instrument, a means to an end. If there is no ‘end’, technology is useless.

3D touch is another thing... it’s been totally gimmicky and they haven’t convinced the end user of any real use for it, other than app icon shortcuts. Removing it makes the interface more simple and production cheaper.
While I admit I haven't used it much since its inception, I now use it quite often on my X, especially for accessing the flashlight and camera from the lock screen. Same for clearing notifications, or getting quick access to reply to messages that pop up when I'm working on something else. It's also handy for peaking at emails without opening them.

Apple has a history of creating features that the full potentials aren't realized for quite some time, as they are working on future devices that take advantage of said features.

  • Video: the iPhone X reviewed, six months later

Max: Apple won't be using USB-C as the connector in iOS devices anytime soon, if ever. It's still physically larger than Lightning, and we all know Apple would never switch to something larger, taking up more precious internal space, that offers no real benefit. My 2016 MacBook has USB-C (as we wall know they do), and I truly hate plugging it in. It's cumbersome compared to plugging in a Lightning cable.

  • 2016 MacBook Pro butterfly keyboards failing twice as frequently as older models

Take a vacuum cleaner to they keyboard, gently. That solved issue with the spacebar on my '16 MacBook. Less travel distances means less clearance for the crap that gets in the keyboard, meaning more likely the key won't engage when pressed. It's a simple fix.
