  • Alleged Apple molds show expected 'iPhone 8' design next to '7s' and '7s Plus'

Not convinced this is accurate news. iPhone Anniversary Edition will be Liquid Metal frame.
I agree if the iPhone 8 is a glass sandwich why would it use a similar mould to the aluminium iPhone 7? And why on the second photo would the edges be square (like the iPhone 5) when it's supposed to be a smoothly flowing rounded form.
Apple wouldn't use aluminum for a glass sandwich iPhone. It'll either be Liquid Metal or steel (iPhone 4/4s). As for being squared off, it should be perfectly square with 90º edges, as the glass will have the curvature.

There are a few things about these "moulds" that don't seem quite right. How, exactly are these moulds? These almost look like what would come out of a mould, except the camera protrudes are inverted. It would look more believable if these were dished out, instead of the sides going down, and everything in reverse.

  • 'Fair Repair Act' proposal in New York under fire by Apple lobbyists

I seriously question that Apple makes a significant amount on repairs.
I have a few friends that had virtually every major component in their MBPs replaced for something like $320, including next day shipping.
I need new up and down arrow keys for my Touch Bar Macbook Pro. I can replace them myself. Apple says they'll replace the entire keyboard for ~$500, that's it. Although I usually side with Apple on their consumer policy stuff, I'm a bit sore on this thing.
I'm calling BS. It's under a year old. Other than something you damage, Apple will repair/replace under the 1 year warranty. If you're so frustrated with software you're using, causing you to slam those keys, stop using Micro$oft and Scroogle apps. It makes like easier.

  • Why Apple is expected to stick with Lightning over USB-C in the new 'iPhone 8'

For now I can't see any upside for Apple or myself in dumping lightning for USB-C. But if eliminating Lightning will be cheaper in the long run, I'd expect Apple to go for it. No more MFL income of course. BTW, is the USB-C chassis part thinner than the Lightning chassis part? That may be a factor.
Lightning is smaller than USB-C. There's no way Apple will ever put USB-C in any iOS device, especially the iPhone, where internal space is very constrained. I see Lightning being around until the day comes that iOS devices (and Apple TV remote) have no port for a wired connection. My 12" MacBook has USB-C, and it's cumbersome compared to Lightning. I'll take Lightning any day.

Does it even matter who was first?
Apparently to certain posters and certain companies it's really important.

I'm beginning to think some people just can't accept that Apple might not be first or best with something.

Most people here understand that Apple is rarely first to market, and yet it's the same "…bu-bu-but Apple wasn't first" comments when Apple does something better than the competition.

The issue is that most people here don't realize that Apple wasn't first. Then if someone else comes up with a feature they immediately think that Apple is being copied.
You can't be harsh on the competitors for introducing a feature that Apple copied themselves.
That's where you're wrong. I'd say the overwhelming majority here knows Apple isn't first for many things, but in typical fashion, Apple is usually the best, and many times by a long shot.

As for complaints about other companies copying features of Apple devices, it's mostly because until Apple does something, the original use cases for said "features" has changed drastically with Apple's implementation. That's what others try to copy, and typically fail miserably, especially Shamdung.

Another part of the "Apple copied blah blah blah" is the fact that Shamdung AND Microsoft both go through Apple's patents for ideas, then rush something to market to claim being first with something. Example: Apple has patents dating back more than 5 or 6 years for curved edges on a phone, very similar to what Shamdung did with the Edge. If/when Apple does it, the illiterates will claim Apple copied Shamdung, even though it's completely the other way around. Apple has a patent from about 6 or 7 years ago for an iMac with touchscreen and tilt features that Microsoft just released in the new Surface Studio.

As much as I'm not a fan of the man who runs Patently Apple, it's still a good source of information. I'd strongly recommend you check it out. He clearly pulls up past patents of Apple's when Shamdung or whoever comes out with an "original" idea that was clearly something Apple worked on way beforehand.

  • Apple's 2017 iPad vs. 2016 9.7" iPad Pro: Which model is right for you?

I'm holding out for a refresh of the 12.9" Pro before I make any decisions on upgrading from my Air 2. Obviously, the new iPad isn't worth a consideration, as the gains would be minimal, and some aspects are a step backwards.
