  • Apple EU anti-competition fine is a relatively modest $570 million to avoid Trump retaliat...

This is a very foolish decision by the EU, and the suggestion in the article that the fine is 'small' to avoid retribution is naive and misguided. The fine is huge, it gives succour to Trump, and he will no doubt grab on to it, and punish the EU accordingly. And I am sorry to say, but they seem to deserve it.

  • Apple may be working on two new Studio Display models

Seriously, how long can it take to release a monitor update? The existing model sits too high ... and I have been waiting a long time for one that is not ergonomically compromised.  The current height variable Studio Display only goes UP:  hopefully, Apple will figure out how to make it go down in height as well.

  • Netflix dropping Basic ads-free tier, forcing users to choose a more profitable tier

    > "leaving users to choose between spending more money or more time with ads"

There is of course a third option, which is to leave Netflix and find something better to do with your time. Most of their content, imo, is very mediocre, and there have only been a couple of series that I have been interested to switch it ON or, and then OFF again when done.

  • Unlock 25GB Ethernet on your Mac with Sonnet's Thunderbolt adapter & PCIe card

I am struggling to find affordable 10G ethernet switches. Those that I have found basically have two 10Gb ports (1 up and 1down), and the rest are 1Gb ports. If one were to purchase this device, what would you connect it to, to get speeds over 10G ethernet? Are there 25Gb switches around? If we are talking about short distance connections, then (a) we don't need a switch, and (b) we don't need ethernet, and can just use a 40Gb Thunderbolt connection, so presumably we are talking about linking to computers in a different room or building.

  • Studio Display with mini LED not launching anytime soon

Looking at the pic of the existing Studio Display, the ergonomics are all wrong ... and completely at odds with the ergonomic principles Apple itself set out for the original 20inch Apple Cinema Displays, which I happened to be looking at just yesterday. Those diagrams advise that the top of the monitor should not be higher than eye-level. The current iMac gets that right ... but the Studio Display sits much higher - and would be ergonomically inferior for anyone, unless they are standing up, or are unusually tall. Hopefully they will fix this in the next version ... and also allow the adjustable version to go down (not only up).
