They’re still usable while you have them, but when you replace your phone or need to restore it, they won’t be available for download.  And it’s been years since we could store them in iTunes.

This feature should be really fun when I’m listening to and half watching the news while cooking dinner. 

So will Apple respect employees’ desires to work in a masked environment, or work from home if that’s not possible at their location?

Qualcomm's phone chips get 2 years of driver support.  If they do the same with their PC chips, folks will need to replace their PCs every 2 years in order to get security updates, if it all works out like with Android.
