  • FCC ordered to take public feedback on net neutrality repeal

    emoeller said:
OK, just submitted my FCC response and suggest all others do the same to overturn 17-108 as it violates the 1996 Telecommunications Act and its predecessor the 1934 Communications Act.
I love how you told everyone not to think and simply do as they are told by you.

Me? Personally, I put the government takeover of the US internet by reclassifying if as a Title II communications service one more bleak moments of the Obama administration.

I do, unlike you, think each person should be able to think for themselves.

  • Apple launching program to store content closer to consumers

Will having “content” data stored at an ISP relieve Apple from involvement or at least some pressure in turning over usage data to law enforcement while making it easier for law enforcement to muscle local ISP?
I don’t see this as applicable in the slightest. The content stored would be movies, TV shows, music, and other videos.

We are not talking about individual data like contacts, photos, iMessages and the like. You know, the stuff law enforcement is interested in.

Apple already hands over the information on what you watched (the first set) with an applicable warrant.

  • Apple's ARKit release left Google flat-footed

I find this article woefully lacking by leaving out Tango. While it seriously drove up the cost of the phone, it was a significant achievement by Google. It was also accurate and more powerful than ARKit.

Apple took the idea of Tango and did the following:

    1) reversed it so if could map the face.
    2) decreased the range but significantly increased density and precision.
    3) miniaturized the heck out of it.
    4) made it fast.
    5) made it mass produced.

Then called it FaceID. They used software and sensors for ARKit. It’s good enough for many applications but can still get better IMO.

  • Apple liable for millions in unpaid wages after court rules retail worker bag checks illeg...

Looks like they should fire half the retail staff and put everyone on salary instead of hourly. Would make the security checks go faster and there would be no overtime pay.
Only if they could be considered salary exempt and that would be unlikely.

i fully agree with this ruling and I hope it gets applied to Amazon as well given it is far more onerous at Amazon’s warehouses than Apple retail.

  • What the EU mandate for a common smartphone charger means

My issue is the straight out lies the EC has used to force this legislation. They have continued to use the 2009 figure of 51,000 metric tons of chargers being thrown out every year by E.U. citizens.

This translates to around 2,000,000,000 chargers every year or about 4 chargers every year for every man, woman, baby, teenager or child living in the E.U.

    This is a legislative tragedy.
