  • Contact tracing app vetted by Apple found to share data with Foursquare and Google

The moment I learned of the API I made sure it was disabled on my devices. I refuse to install any of these contact tracing apps.

Not just no, but hell no.  Not gonna happen.

  • Apple releases fourth developer betas of iOS 13.5, iPadOS 13.5 with Exposure Notification

    Opt-out makes sense here.
I would have preferred an opt-in.. Personally I think that's more in the spirit of GDPR and other privacy laws. This is a technology that could be perverted into a dreadful weapon against free peoples.

So is the exposure notification an app or an API for apps to use? Is it on by default and how do we turn it off?

API.  It's meant for health authority devs to integrate with.  Interestingly, I read somewhere that is is on by default.  That is likely to change.
Yes, it is on by default. However, it can be turned off. Settings --> Privacy --> Health --> "COVID-19 Exposure Notifications"

  • Apple's new 11- & 12.9-inch iPad Pros sport a massive redesign and gain Face ID, USB-C

Can anyone comment on the ergonomics of this new design?  The flat sides resemble those of the iPad 1, which has an aesthetic appeal, but might not be as comfortable to grip.  Likewise, with minimal bezel or chin to the frame, it seems like I'll be fighting for an optimal way to lay my hands/fingers on the device when holding it.  Even the promotional photographs show the user uncomfortably pinching the very edges of the frame.  Makes me a cringe a bit.  Currently use a 10.5 inch Pro model, and I'm hesitant of the new design.

Any thoughts from those coming from the bezel-less iPhone X designs?
I have the iPhone X and I have been using it now for nearly a year.  The design is great, but there is a learning curve for where your hands can go.  This will be similar, though the physics of holding a larger device are drastically different then a device you hold in one hand.  The thinner bezels will require an adustment to where you place your hands and fingers, though it does not look like they eliminated the bezels enough to make it truly problematic.  If you have an Apple store near you, I would say wait until you can see one in person and take it for a spin there.  That's what I plan to do.  Looking to replace my 1st gen iPad Pro 12.9"..  Been waiting to see what they do.  But, with prices on this rivaling a fully loaded MacBook Air, it now becomes a use case arguement for one vs the other.

  • Apple highlights iPad Pro's USB-C connectivity to an external 4K or 5K display

It's important to note that Apple already has USB-C to HDMI and USB-C to VGA adapters that also allow for simultanious charging of the connected device as well as USB-A connectivity.  Now, these adapters where released for the MacBook and MacBook Pro, but they would conceivably work with the new iPad Pros shown today.  Of couse the USB-C to USB-A adapter would allow you to connect any older digital camera and some new cameras have a USB-C connector in them so direct USB-C to USB-C could be an ultra high speed way to get photos and video from a camera to an iPad Pro and into something like Photoshop CC.
