  • Apple gives in on the End Call button position in latest iOS 17 beta

Yeah welp people at Apple need to justify their jobs and when you hit version 17 of a piece of software these are the kinds of things done to show progress.
Politicians, middle managers, long running software (developers).  Everyone needs to justify their existence.  I find it irritating that things are constantly changing for no real UX reason.   Sometimes I think it is that changes are not thought through.

MacOS (this may go back to OS9?) would not remove focus from an app automatically unless the system health required it.  Ie a system level issue that would damage the system or your data had happened and immediate attention was required.   Any other time a way was provided to notify the user of a change that needed attention.  Now any app can instigate system actions that grab focus.   Terrible experience.  I am typing in a window and all of a sudden so non essential service finished and grabs focus with some non essential dialog.

The red button, the thing I describe above , are all symptoms of the “make changes and don’t think them through and justify them” syndrome.

  • Lens maker Sony doesn't expect high demand for the iPhone 15

Apple is too dependent upon consumers and should be attempting to get more sales from enterprise companies.
Apple makes a lot of effort to go after the enterprise business with their non Mac lines.  There (Mac) I don’t have much info.  But the company I work for makes an iOS and an Android version of our apps, which are not at all consumer oriented (you need expensive server backends and it is healthcare service oriented).  Apple tries to get us to do exclusives or bid with us on deals and is heavily involved in this sector and getting customers on the iOS bandwagon.  If they can sell 500 or 5000 phones in one sale to a customer adopting or upgrading their installation, that is a big win. And they spend effort on it.  You don’t see the effort because things like social media, sorts events, TV etc based advertising is not how that sector works.

  • Copyright laws shouldn't apply to AI training, proposes Google

If EU regulators want to REALLY do us all a solid, make “opt out” illegal. Opt in only should be the standard.
I came here to say the same thing.  “Opt-out” for almost any law should not be allowed.  Everything should be “opt-in”.

  • Congress grills Tim Cook over App Store rules affecting NFTs and crypto

Any time I see a politician or government asking questions like this it seems the most likely reason is they’re not getting their cut.

  • Pre-Apple check by Jobs and Woz up for auction

Anyone wanna $117 cached check for $50k+

My bank refused to deposit a check when the written and digit values did not match. Another instance they told me they only consider the written number, if the numb er value is different.
Yes the bank should either refuse it or use the written out part and not the numeric part to determine how much to cash it for.  However people including bank tellers are lazy and it happens regularly that they just use the numeric part and don’t closely check them.
