  • Eufy not patching cameras, instead just warning users about cloud use

If that is all this is about — uploading a notification thumbnail — then this is much ado about nothing (assuming they don’t store notifications once sent).

Yo be honest, if I were the dev for this app I’d probably have forgotten to disclose this too since if is not what most people think of when they hear “upload to the cloud”.  When you hear that you think they are saving the actual data in their system for some future use (or not — but saved).  An ephemeral upload to the notification server, which does store it any longer than it takes to send, is not what most people think of and not what I would have thought of either if I were the dev.

I hav eine Eufy camera installed watching my porch. I intend to eventually move it to the HomeKit secure video   I have several more to install once we move.  This news makes me feel better and using the HomeKit video should get around it for those really concerned.

I personally have no problem with the unencrypted video on my local internal network.  If I have network intruders I have more problems than someone being able to watch my porch.

  • Find My misfire leads to SWAT raid on grandmother

Unfortunately, "she was a black woman" is the answer. Again
Most ignorant statement of the day.   The police obviously had no clue who was there at the address.  They just used the Find My results and went in.  Trying to make it about race and police is just dumb. Especially with no evidence.

Hopefully someone at the Denver PD gets an epiphany and settles this to the victims favor and then instigates a “policing 101” course at the PD that emphasizes actual police work.   Gum shoeing it.  Surveillance.  Other sorts of old school work.  Technology doesn’t replace the actual police work. It can enhance it and provide additional information but does not replace fundamentals.

  • iMac could have been made without a chin, proves new hack

Of course Apple could’ve Made a “chin”-less iMac.   We don’t need some hacker engineer making his own to prove that.

The more interesting question is why didn’t Apple do it?

  • Musicians aren't losing out from streaming music, UK regulator says

    spheric said:
The biggest issue right now is the distribution of subscription fees.

Currently, everyone's fees are thrown in a pot and distributed according to the total number of streams.

This is somewhere between problematic and catastrophic.

1.) it opens the floodgates for manipulation. Bot farms streaming hundreds of thousands of instances generate real money, and take it away from all the rest of us.

2.) it ensures that only the major players get any sort of meaningful revenue.

What we need is a model where each user's subscription fee is allocated to the artists THAT USER listens to.

A kid who pays a $12 subscription fee, but only listens to his three favourite underground bands, sees all his money goes to Drake and Taylor Swift.

That is not okay, and it makes work impossible for a whole range of indie artists who used to sell just enough records to their loyal fanbase to break even.
Thank you for this post.  I’m not a recording or live playing musician, except in my dreams (nightmares?).  But the topic interests me as music is very important to me in life and I agree that the money should be distributed by what the individual paying person listens to and not some overall percentage of the grand pot.  It requires more book keeping but is more equitable.

How can we, the common citizens, help push these concepts?  Are there pieces of legislation (in whatever country) that we can voice support for?

  • Update your Google Chrome Mac install now

So are Chromium based browsers also affected?  I don’t run Chrome but have Brave installed for those sites that need Chrome to function.
