  • Kanye West won't release 'Donda 2' on 'oppressive' Apple Music or Spotify

Actually the "stem player" sound interesting.   Not because I want to listen to his music (I lost definitely don't) but if they can get all the large libraries on board to sell their tracks on it and actually support its features on all their music it could be a great device.  Specifically the "stem" feature that lets you isolate tracks at the push of a button.  Pushing a button to get an isolated guitar or bass or drums or synth part would be awesome for people learning a song.  There used to be a software package that sold songs that had all tracks isolated (and would notate the song on screen).  This is a spiritual follow on and could be awesome.

  • Amazon reclassified as grocer by UK, subjecting it to more regulation

I am trying to work out what the regulatory crime is here?

the west is subjecting itself to red tape overreach, but classifying an entity selling groceries as a grocery store just like every other entity selling groceries is not an example of bad policy.
Though that may depend on whether their electronics etc. are subject to regulation under the “groceries” criteria.
That is the question.  If the whole Amazon is being classified as a Grocer and falls under those regulations, that is regulatory oversight reach and an arbitrary way of attacking Amazon through regulation.  If it is just their Grocery operations then it makes perfect sense.

I got the sense from the article that the whole Amazon company is being classified as a Grocer, though I could be wrong.  That doesn’t seem right as I doubt that their grocery turnover in the UK (or anywhere) is very high compared to their other operations or lines of business/ product categories.

This seems rather arbitrary.  Unless Amazon’s turnover has a very large grocery component in the UK.

  • Amazon Prime raising annual subscription to $139

If you are in the US and shop on Amazon, you should have the Amazon Prime credit card (by Chase).   If you don't have Prime you get 3% on Amazon purchases.  If you do have Prime it is 5%.   I more than make up my yearly Prime membership fee through this and the only reason I have Prime is to get stuff wicked fast (without needing to order $25 or $35 all at once) -- I don't care about video or music or other "benefits" besides the cash back from Chase through the Amazon card.

Would be nice if Apple caught up with this when an Apple Messages user reacts to a message in a "non-blue" group conversation.

I am on multiple messages groups created by parents of kids in various bands, teams, youth groups.  Invariably there is at least one non-Apple user in the group so messages are sent over SMS and when someone with Apple Messages reacts I get a whole new copy of the message quoted with something like "so and so liked this message".
Unless there is some federal/government-level mandate that we should all use a particular messaging protocol, it will always be a problem.  Apple has zero motivation to play nice with other SMS services.  It all comes down to that blue bubble.
I think you missed the point.   Apple controls the text sent out and could easily detect that text, since Apple controls it, and display it with the emoji etc.  This has nothing to do with trying to play nice with other SMS services.  It has everything to do with Apple properly displaying the text that their own devices send out.

I don't know what Google is doing as I don't use android or Google messenger /messages (or whatever if is called) but since they're  getting stuff over SMS from iPhones I suspect that that is what they do.  Imagine the Google message app doing a better job at displaying messages from an iPhone than an iPhone  can do (in a mixed device group)
