EU law would let iCloud users transfer their data to rival platforms
Once again the EU showing their stupidity in trying to regulate an industry that needs no regulation, while also opening the door to abuse.
As pointed out, you can already move the majority of your data without restrictions. The actual “restrictions” have nothing to do with Apple and everything to do with developers.
For example, I can download my photos or files from
iCloud and move them anywhere. But data inside a specific App can be proprietary and I can’t always switch to the same App on Android and have my data go with me.
If anything needs regulation it’s App developers who are the ones making it difficult to switch platforms by not allowing seamless transfer of data.they’re going after the wrong people (Apple, Google…). -
Apple Vision Pro still has a way to go
While some Apps aren’t finished or shown doesn’t mean Apple is behind. It only means Apple didn’t want to demo them for some reason. It wasn’t a live event so it can’t be about the worry of something acting up mid presentation. They could be holding out on these because they don’t want to give away everything Vision Pro does before release (like give competitors ideas they can try to duplicate). These Apps could be anywhere from 10% complete to 90% complete. We just don’t know. Considering how big of a product launch this is (and how many years we heard about it before it was finally shown) I doubt Apple is going to screw this up with half-baked Apps or soft launches about this or that App being available “sometime” in the future. I think it’ll be ready on day one of being sold. -
Japan law will require Apple to allow alternate iPhone app stores
Lower App prices. Why do these regulators always promote this lie?
When Apple and Google dropped fees to 15% for smaller developers, did they drop prices? No, they kept the extra profit for themselves.
The developers promoting this (like Epic) are only in it for the money. They don’t care about small developers or anyone else. They just want a bigger cut. App prices won’t drop, but large developer profits will go up. Small developers won’t gain a thing from 3rd party stores, and it would likely cost them more since now they’ll have to handle things that Apple does for them now (for free). -
Apple's $13 billion Ireland tax saga lurches back to life after yet another EU appeal
They’ll lose again. Spectacularly.
The fact Ireland is now part of OECD only helps Apple since the taxes the EU is looking for pre-date this tax agreement. They’re basically admitting Ireland was operating using a loophole that’s now been closed. A loophole may be considered unfair, but it’s not illegal. -
Full-featured Final Cut Pro & Logic Pro coming to iPad in May
Apple trolling Google. Bad Apple.
Google I/O starts tomorrow. Besides the Pixel Fold the other new hardware announcement will be the new Pixel Tablet, years after leaving the tablet market.
Google has been hyping Android tablets recently and making a push for more tablet optimized Apps (including their own). No doubt that was going to be a big part of their Pixel tablet announcement tomorrow.
And Apple just happens to pick the day before to
announce FCP and Logic, shining a glaring spotlight on how far ahead pro-level Apps are on the iPad compared to Android.
Well played, Apple.
