  • Apple VP talks Apple TV 4K, commitment to future home audio products

He also covered the redesigned Siri Remote. Although some rumors suggested that Apple would add Find My support for the accessory, Twerdahl says that wasn't necessary because of the design changes made to the remote.
"With the changes we've made to the Siri Remote - including making it a bit thicker so it won't fall in your couch cushions as much - that need to have all these other network devices find it seems a bit lower," he said.
The redesigned remote also nixes both the accelerometer and the gyroscope, meaning that it can't be used as a game controller. Twerdahl says that's because Apple believes "a dedicated game controller is the best experience" for users wanting to play a game. Apple initially required all Apple TV games to support the Siri Remote, but that policy has since been changed.
In non marketing crafted language that means: we had a margin target and to achieve it we had to ditch bits. Note there is no Apple game controller to substitute (probably a good thing tbh).
Nonsense. Apple doesn’t need to recreate the game controller any more than it needs to recreate the printer — just buy one of the many options and start playing.

I honestly dont get the fauxrage about not having the remote in Find My — how hard is it to lift up the seat cushions? It’s not like you’re going to be driving across town trying to find your TV remote.
When you have kids that have a tendency to take the remote out of the TV room and leave it in the most obscure and interesting places, the necessity becomes apparent.  I’ll be attaching an airtag to the next remote using epoxy…

  • Eufy owners privacy breached for an hour, app showed wrong cameras

I have one very simple rule that eliminates this problem:  NO internet connected cameras inside my house.

I don't have any security cameras inside my house.  The outside cameras don't upload to somebody else's computer, storage is on my hardware.
A thousand times this.  I can accept the risk of things being on a private network where I can control what goes in or out via firewall rules or vpn, but to have devices that require a “cloud” connection to work? No way.  Someone breaches that cloud infrastructure, you’re now exposed or at risk. By having it only local, it’s physically constrained, meaning, that have to be in range of your house.  There’s always the risk of an attacker getting through the firewall, but that doesn’t have the same yield as a “cloud” service provider.  Someone would almost have to be out to get you for that to happen.

  • Apple may pay Samsung Display over reduced OLED iPhone 12 mini panel orders

Yet more proof that the ‘smaller is better’ crowd are outliers in the Apple ecosystem. Apple customers want big phones and big screens. Apple listened to the small phone cabal and got burned.
I do not think this is the case.

If Apple would just make the iPhone 12 mini a "Pro" model with stainless steel, it would fix the issue.
I think it boils down to the mini not being a “pro” phone.  I was torn between the mini and the 12 pro, but opted for the mini for the smaller size.  If there pro features were in the mini, there would’ve been no quandary.  I’ve said this on occasion, that I think they need to simplify their line up and drop the “pro” altogether.  For example, just have a 12 mini, a 12, and a 12 max (which would retain the best camera).  For those looking for a cheaper model, get last years model or the SE. My gut says the “mini” crowd is torn between the smaller pro and the mini (I almost went with the pro for the SS finish, better camera module/lidar, more memory, but the size trumped in the end).  I bet these features would sway many away from the mini, as they are not getting all the bells and whistles.

  • Apple promotes 'Servant' season finale with free pizza

Both the pizza toppings and the name are unappealing.  Cool idea though, sure it’ll sell out!

  • Apple touts iPhone 12 durability in 'Cook' ad

This is why Apple keeps moving towards removing mechanical buttons and ports. Without those things the iPhone would be waterproof and eventually Star Trek level drop proof.

    Star Trek used flip phones!
    But otherwise, good points!
In the ToS they did, but not in the TNG series like TNG, Voyager, but don’t remember about DS9... that one doesn’t stick in my head as much.

    There is only one StarTrek.
